I know you weren't doing this, but I'm always a little bewildered when people criticise something for being so very much of what it is. Sometimes it's almost as if they're embarrassed that it's anything at all. Do you know what I mean?
Well one of the things about the acting is that these people are supposed to be so sophisticated and reserved. I LOVE it when an actors slips up and says the wrong thing , which I never really noticed before until now.Maybe it's the earlier episodes .
Yesterday one of the actors said " are you going to look at it under the microphone?" instead of microscope.
I remember going to a convention a few years back and there was a Dark Shadows expert who was talking about how they did everything in one take ,and so many episodes were filled with bloopers.
He showed about two hours worth of bloopers, it's was hilarious!

I'd love to read me some of that Pre-Interweb Magnum Opus.
I think it's important to remember the standards of acting in ANY soap opera "Daytime Drama" before you come down too hard on DARK SHADOWS.
That show managed to meet the standard of the time (and surpass it sometimes) while still staying interesting with all of it's GOTHIK FINERIE...

Oh I have been a huge Dark Shadows fan for pretty much my whole life.
I just have never seen the very first episodes.
I think it was one of the best shows ever!
I 've done a couple sketch comedy type spoofs on Dark Shadows.
