Michael Symon's Bacon Noodle Surprise

Feb 07, 2012 15:19

Saw this on The Chew and had to make it.  Yum!  I use half a cabbage instead of a whole one - seems better proportioned that way.

Ingredients
1 Package Pasta (any flat noodle should be fine)
1 Head of Cabbage (thinly sliced)
1/4 Bunch Parsley
1 cup Sour Cream
1/2 Package Bacon cut into 1" pieces
1 tablespoon Olive oil
2 tablespoon Butter
Onion (chopped)

It's really funny because Gary didn't think the ingredients would go well together but once he tried it he wanted me to make it again. It's easy as can be; it was one of their "5 in 5" dishes, but because of the time the pasta takes to cook it's closer to 10 minutes than 5.

Of course they would go together. I mean, you put sour cream and bacon on a baked potato, so why not noodles? And cabbage tastes good in almost anything.

I think it was the cabbage that threw him off. I saw it as a common eastern European thing: sour cream, spiced meat, and cabbage. It was definitely nom.

I added the leftover cabbage to the chicken & dumplings I made for dinner tonight. Waste not want not. :-)
