I've been thinking what to write and can't really put it into words.
Thank you for telling us, it can be difficult to sum up feelings into words, like I'm doing right now.. um... I am glad you now have the chance to take the good times and continue to make her a part of your life. She was a great big part of it and sounded pretty damn amazing. <3
I completely understand how you feel, Nikki.. We all went through a similar situation with my father. He'd been physically ill for so long, his quality of life was at about a 1%. They were talking about inserting feeding tubes a few days before he passed. His body had just had it.
Focusing on the good memories and realizing he's finally free made me feel good about his passing.
I'm glad you're focusing on the good and keeping her memory alive.
Your feelings are understandable. Whenever someone close to us is suffering, it's always a relief to see them out of pain. I felt that way when my grandfather passed away of cancer, as did a co-worker of mine whose mother had it. He said the same thing... of course he was sad to lose his mother so young, but mostly, he just felt glad that she wasn't in pain anymore. And really, there's no reason to be sad over THAT.
