Of course, she found it harder to sneak around in the dress that her aunt insisted that she wear. She much preferred breeches like Daniel wore, but her aunt surely would have an apoplectic fit if she caught her wearing such things. She let out a sigh as she made her way towards the market, why did Father have to insist that she be educated by that woman. She’d rather be with her father on his travels like when she was younger. Things were so exciting then.
The sounds of chickens from the market caught her attention and a sly smile crossed her face as she imagined herself sneaking up on them, her paws not making a sound as she tread unnoticed amongst the crowd. Moving near the crates she paused and her attention wavered a moment as a woman passed in front of her view, blocking her line of sight and the chickens beyond.
“Kyrstania! What shenanigans are you up to now.” Here was no anger in the voice, just simple amusement as the woman came up upon the girl.
Smiling brightly, Krystania tipped her head to the side. “Nothing. Just taking a break from embroidering. Useless waste of time if you ask me, Brynna.”
Shaking her head at the girl, Brynna turned to glance back at her booth and then rolled her eyes. “Embroidering ain’t no useless skill, ‘specially iffen you can do it well. Can bring in a nice bit of coin it can when done right.”
“Can it?” Krystania asked. “Why would anyone want to pay for colorful threads in a bit of cloth? Seems kinda silly to me. I mean what use is it?”
“Well, some girls like to give them to the guy they like, course some of them are hopeless at that sort of thing and will gladly pay someone else to do it. Poor men though, getting’ tooken in by such a thing. Here they think they be getting’ a talented bride, and well. Still there are men that like to pick up pretty things for their girls and will by something for them, or some may even be single and then what something pretty to hang. There’s a number of things that people like ta use them fer.”
Pondering this bit of information Krystania wondered over to the chickens and peered in on them. “Kinda like people buying a chicken then so they don’t have to raise their own?” she asked after moment and then nodded as Brynn affirmed that. “Well, I suppose it can have its uses and all.” She murmured and then she glanced in the direction of the when a loud commotion started up.
With the market only being a short distance from the gate, it was easy enough to hear an argument breaking out between several parties. With a short wave to Brynn, Krystania dashed off towards the gate, barely acknowledging the call of be careful from the woman. As she neared, she could began to hear distinct words through the chaos. She paused near the bakers, which was about three buildings down from the gate and frowned. She had no idea what they meant by demons living in the nearby hills. As far as she knew, they were as safe as her own backyard. What did alarm her however, was hearing her father’s name come up and the demand for action.
