On being the ugly girl

Mar 06, 2010 09:36

He said you're really an ugly girl, but I like the way you play.

This post is inspired by a conversation I had last night with bobcatgoldfish. I don't respond well to being told I'm pretty/beautiful/even vaguely normal looking. I frequently claim to be "freaky" or "weird" looking and don't expect people to respond with "No you don't..." I have this whole ( Read more... )

> My most important ex - the guy I gave two and a half years of my life to, tells people I'm ugly. He calls me "Rat Face" to his friends and on internet forums, he even compared me to an unattractive male politician in a LiveJournal post.

He's no oil painting himself though, is he? And he seemed to like the way you looked just fine for a long time. S**** is just a bitter bastard, who knows what to say to upset you.

I was born with a face that most would consider attractive and I thought it was boring, and I had it permanently altered. There was much more to the story, but that was part of it. My nose has gone through the most changes. "Pretty" people tend to be uninteresting to look at and uninteresting to speak to, though there are exceptions. I like the unusual and the unconventional ( ... )

I think you look like a person who has a lot going on in her mind, and that's a high compliment from me.

This is a compliment, I really appreciate it. x

I think Kate Winslet is the most beautiful actress there is - yet so many people find her ugly.
I'm not going to argue with you, because everyone has their own concept of pretty/ugly. I don't find myself pretty yet many people will argue with me I am.
It's all about being happy with yourself and not caring about other peoples opinions.
I'm not gonna go on how pretty you are because of course that is my opinion which I won't force.
But I am proud of you for making this post because it takes alot of courage to express something like this.

I spent years being called fat or ugly, but always said it never bothered me, and then when I was older, I realised how much it had affected me, especially when it came to me liking boys - I never felt good enough to go after the ones I liked.
Then I met Marc', who completely changed my perception of me :]

Kate Winslet is stunning, but I think she looked better with a bit more weight on her. I suppose I'd rather have an interesting face than a pretty one though! :)

You're not ugly! You're pretty!

Sorry, no one else did it xD

I have a very large nose, too. This boy in middle school used to tell me a plane could land on it and make airplane noises whenever he saw me, lol. I think I'm maybe at an advantage in a sense because I don't have any sight, so things like beauty and unattractiveness don't register in the same way that they do for most people. And also I don't really want anyone to find me attractive. But I really do think beauty is in the eye of the beholder, it might be true that you're not conventionally beautiful but when people tell you you're pretty, they probably mean it. Just, what's pretty to them.
