I could use the money. So I've just taken a phone questionnaire about a medical trial for some medication and alcohol. I'm not eligible for their study and... I'm really glad that I can't do it. Something really disturbs me about the idea of selling my passive body (or possibly my health) for experimentation. They would've had me take a ( Read more... )

I was a research subject in a couple medical tests. Fun and harmless in my experience. The good ones are the efficacy tests, as opposed to safety tests. For efficacy tests, the drug has already been proven safe, and they just want to see how well it works. The catch is that to be eligible for this kind of test you actually have to need the drug. For once, having allergies was a good thing.

as people have already mentioned, there are some gnarly medical experiments done on students! i participated in a womens health one about tampons which was pretty harmless, but my friend participated in one where they were testing out a new way to insert a feeding tube. they stuck the tube up her nose and down her throat and she said even though she was all drugged up, she still had tears streaming down her face. she said it was the worst experience of her life and was totally not worth the $250. so beware of the ones that pay a lot - there is a reason for it! be very selective!

at times of poverty, i have definitely considered doing these medical tests but never had the gts to go through with it. $110 is ridiculous money for what you described though! the reason i even considered it here is cuz they pay you hundreds of dollars for it, and sometimes even $1000+ if it's over several days!

Look for sociology grad students doing studies.

A couple of sociology students at Ohio State University paid me 50 dollars just to let myself be tape-recorded answering questions concerning how I feel about living with someone and not being married. It took about a half hour and was the easiest 25 bucks/hour I've ever made...
