email problems

Due to an inability to log into my server for the past few days (I think my connections are down), I haven't been able to check most of my email. If you have sent me anything since last Thursday morning, I have not yet had a chance to read it, and am sorry if it was time-sensitive. I will be working to remedy this shortly.

I sure hope you arent using a rogers connected box as a host - they have gone totally policy nazi this month, and are shutting down all acounts that have DNS pointing to their IPs, or have any kind of port open and accepting connections.

Conversely, if you have a hosting provider that works, let me know - Im leaving rogers ASAP

I've got my machines living in a friend's closet, sponging off his DSL connection, with a pair of their own PPPoE connections: one to UofT, and the other to eicat.ca (which is run by some friends of mine, and completely open to people running servers on their connections; in fact, all I'm paying them for right now is a static IP in their address space).

The closet-owning friend in question is also an LJ friend, and I've been unable to reach him for the past few days, so I'm kinda hoping he sees this post and calls me.

Hi,

You are all connected again.
Had network issues on thursday and the testing procedure required my box have a direct line to the modem. I must have replaced the cable in the wrong router socket. It also looked like your firewall box needed a reboot. Your machines are both visible to the universe again (checked from an outside network). Sorry about the delay.
