These shallow etches in my heart
537 words; PG; angst, fluff; Yesung-centric, K.R.Y
Of the many things Yesung could never tell you, Yesung would never tell you when he knew about the faint engravings in his heart. Truthfully, he didn't know, because to him, it seemed as though he had just woken up one day and they were there - the soft heartache of missing someone close. They were thin, paper thin, and shallow and so faint you had to screw your eyes tighter than a squint to see them. For Yesung, however, whether others could see it or not was beyond the point; if he knew they were there, and they knew they were there, that was all that mattered in the end.
Sometimes, it seems as though they don't exist, has never existed, and will never exist. Sometimes, it seems as though they were just a bunch of myths made up by the remaining seven members of Super Junior to wile away the time between seeing the rest of their family.
Nowadays, these moments are few and far between. Ryeowook and Kyuhyun are a Yellow Sea and country away from him, singing, dancing, having fun, and it takes all his inner strength not to succumb to the loneliness and the self-depreciating thoughts of no, he isn't really needed in the world, everyone else has someone else that isn't him.
Even so, the others seem to know what he is thinking. Heechul and Kangin both glare at him in disgust, and he doesn't blame them because he thinks he's acting pitifully. Sungmin just smiles encouragingly. Kibum nods understandingly at him: he missed Donghae just as much as Yesung misses the remaining two-thirds of K.R.Y. Shindong acknowledges his yearning to be with his dongsaengs, but generally does nothing to help: Yesung, for the record, doesn't hold it against the younger man. Eunhyuk never seems to be around - DBSK returned from Japan and Eunhyuk spent every waking moment unoccupied by work attached to Junsu's hip. Eeteuk gave his hands a comforting squeeze whenever they passed one another.
Still, he tries to put up a brave front, his expression hopefully schooled into something that resembled firm resolve as he performs with Super Junior-H, and his efforts are rewarded when Ryeowook and Kyuhyun return to Korea and pull him into a tight hug the second they catch sight of him in the foyer of their dorm, a small smile on his face.
"We missed you, hyung," Ryeowook whimpers into his ear, his voice weak from the emotions that had overcome him earlier that night.
"We really have missed you, hyung," Kyuhyun agrees, his voice simultaneously tired and awake. "Ryeowook as so worried when Eeteuk-hyung phoned us in August and told us that you had injured yourself. He was flapping around the room, worrying himself sick, when Han Geng-ge told us."
Yesung smiled, feeling one of the tiny wounds close up and heal instantly at those words, and fondly petted Ryeowook's hair. "I'm sorry for making you worried, Wookie," he apologised, nuzzling the younger man.
"As long as you're alright now," the singer said, burying his face in the eldest chest, "as long as you're alright now."
Not really, Yesung thought, but I will be with you two here, now, by my side.
