here's a few: a subsitute for "hey", usually follwed by "wut up" or "'sup?"; usually said by thugs, posers, or just really chill dudes (like me...haha). Note: for the full effect of "yo" to be realized it must be said in a stoic yet nonchalant manner... hehe

yo. a word full of mystery.

it can be used as a greeting,
("yo, whats up?")

a term of endearment for the person addressed,
("lets go check the movie times, yo.")

or an interjection.
(as one stubs a toe, "YO!")
