Just been to see the most intriguing production of Hamlet :D I had initally opted not to go, on the principal that I seem to spend the vast proportion of my time at Shakespearean plays trying to get used the language, and then just when I'm getting the hang of it, the play's over! It's wonderful when the theatre comes alive, especially if it comes to sit next to you. :-D Glad you had fun!

I love "Hamlet". It's been done so many ways, it's wonderful to discuss.

I don't like modernizing the costumes. It's distracting. Suddenly the Elisabethan language seems out of place, jarring on modern woman's lips. I think it's only done so the guys don't have to wear tights. :P

Simplifying the costumes can work, although Kevin Klein once commented that if you simplify them too much they turn into "Star Trek" uniforms.

well, in this case I thought it was well done. I don't know if it was the costuming, the actors doing a fabulous job, or perhaps that I'm just a bit older now, but for some reason I found the language much easier to understand and appreciate this time around. Polonius was extremely good in that regard (altho he was still wearing tights :p ), I enjoyed his parts immensely (he did the gravedigger as well, SO funny!)
