So. I lent my jump drive to a classmate during class so she can transfer her presentation from her mac to the school computer hooked up to the projector.. and when I got it back I had some malware on it. What ( Read more... )

sometimes when dvd drives are being an asshole you can delete the upper and lower filters in the registry and then it behaves itself. ... tho i tend to do that more when it won't recognize media, not so much for missing drives XD

um! flash the bios ! (install latest bios driver for your system) it does wonders for pissy systems :D and double check that the BIOS was recognizing the drive (usually f2 on boot for setup) whee ! you get free tech support

Drivers can be a bitch sometimes, so just take your time with them. Most of the time once you have reinstalled them, a reboot will enable them.

I really think you got the malware from the school computer. I don't know how many times I have seen people get malware from university computers. The security sofware on university set-ups are sometimes not up to snuff for newer malware.

I suggest in worst case to just get AdAware and SpyBot Search and Destroy. Them, with a good antivirus has done wonders for me for years.

ahaha, I am totally unprotected. I used to have spybot and adaware, but for some reason, no longer.

my nerd recommendation of the year is : the new AVG. antivirus and the built in spyware scanner is pretty sexy , for a free version. gogogo
