The Web is full of stupidity, and fulminating against all of it would take more time and effort than I care to expand for so little consequence. However, every once in a while something manages to really hit my buttons and get me frothing. Forbes.com's rapidly-becoming-infamous "Don't Marry Career Women" piece did it. As Gawker.com says, "Deny Forbes the traffic they so clearly expected in publishing a piece this offensive."

The sad part of all this, as I said toward the end of my reply letter, is that Forbes is probably quite happy to run this offensive drivel because of the traffic it generates.

that's exactly it. like so many other things that people say just to piss other people off. people say stupid shite and other people believe it and spout it out again. it would be fine except people actually do subscribe to these viewpoints and rather than just bringing it up for the sake of generating traffic, it helps people feel justified in what they already believe.
