things you do not want to see when you go to log in and check your bank account

no access to your money and a notice saying "oops, we just got shut down by the FDIC".

I am CURSED when it comes to bank accounts.

edit: yes, I'm insured and will get my money back, and yeah, I even kinda knew this was coming, or at least that something nasty was likely to happen to Netbank. I won't lose any cash. It's just going to be a hassle.

second this. I had my money in a credit union pretty much since I was a kid. My dad used them all the time. When we moved to Tucson, I got into a credit union there. I think my dad joined a club just to get access to the credit union. I was 16 and even though I'm now almost twice that and have gone through one cross country move, I've kept my bank and I don't ever imagine leaving. Almost anything can be done via interwebs or mail, so it isn't a big deal at all. The one thing I did do was open a small local savings account so I can have easy access to cash when I'm walking around in the city, without having to pay fees.

bleah. I got hit by that too. Thankfully, it seems like things are operating as normal. I called around and confirmed that several scheduled payments went through just fine. I'm thinking of switching to HSBC next.

I just peeked at your journal because you responded to one of my comments elsewhere... but holy cow did this post resonate with me.

(I eventually escaped the evil orange people and fled to EverBank.)
