Get Off My Damn Lawn! Or, TV Obsession

What the hell is wrong with nerds these days? Back in the 90s, when hardly anyone had Internet connectivity, you couldn't login without stumbling across someone's detailed analysis of the latest issue of SANDMAN ( Read more... )

metafilter has a 'geek out about media' subsite, now, "fanfare", where there's at least nerdy discussions about penny dreadful. Not the same as full-on annotation, though.

I checked their threads for the first 2 eps & it seems to be mostly snark about the creating company & bad acting. Whatever.

The Mary Sue (http://www.themarysue.com/) has had some good annotation in service of episode recaps & commentary, but they don't have a devotion to the annotation.

Perhaps there's a niche...

ah - I hadn't read the threads, I just knew folks were talking about it there. fanfare.metafilter.com came about when televisionwithoutpity went away, so it's still a new thing and there's not a culture of deep analysis for a lot of it (yet). I think it's hit or miss as far as whether it's snark or discussion for things. sorry, man.

I think you're right that the annotation isn't happening the way it used to for comics. Which is a shame.

If something like that comes about, I wonder if it'll happen on tumblr.

All love to Josh Hartnett, Eva Green, and Timothy Dalton, and a tip of the hat to the fine folks who brought us the show, buuuuuuuuut...

I wasn't quite impressed enough with the pilot to want to pursue the show. I found myself hankering for more Supernatural instead, with all of its Vancouver settings and cheesy (or is it poutine?) effects and ham acting.

So maybe that's why there's not much annotation going on; maybe there's a glut on horror these days.

Or MAYBE there's a KJC project just WAITING to happen! :-)
