Margaret Weis' and Tracy Hickman's first six Dragonlance books (the Chronicles and Legends trilogies). Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time. Stephen King's Dark Tower series. Clarke's Childhood's End is excellent. And you can *never* read enough Philip K. Dick (my favorites are Radio Free Albemuth and Valis). I assume you've read Huxley's Brave New World, but if not, it's required reading.
Oh, and sorry to just jump in. I'm a fantasy/sci-fi fan who randomly happened upon your journal.
I as somone with a house filled with Sci-fi and fantasy stuff recommend A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin, Neuromancer by William Gibson and the books by Alastair Reynolds especially ones like Chasm City and the Inhibitor series.
