Trio Drabbles

Note: I'm posting these here before the first challenge gets posted, 'cause I'm a cheater. =)

Title: 10th Man
Character: Konrad
Word Count: 100
Warnings: Not canon, just a thought.

They said that the first man you killed was never forgotten. It was true, but Konrad had grown to accept the necessity of that death. He had killed to protect and did not regret that choice.

No, his was not the face that haunted those long, sleepless nights when doubts and shadows crowded all around. His first battle and fodder for his nightmares; the blood, the panic, the confusion and the noise... like a beast howling. The young man - lost and bewildered and wild - was not the first he killed, but he was the first that Konrad mourned.

Title: Wish
Character: Raven
Word Count: 100
Spoilers: Episode 17

The sky was clear, with fringes of fluffy white clouds. He thinks that it should be dark and gloomy; after all, his heart is broken. As he steps into the sun, shielding his eyes, he is momentarily blinded by the pure white light. His eyes sting and he rubs rough-gloved hands across his eyes, feeling sand grate against soft skin.

He can smell the faintest hint of Cheri-sama's perfume as the light fades back to tolerable levels. He takes one deep breath, exhales then turns away to help her brother rise from his knees and stand tall in the sunlight.

Title: Know Why the Nightingale Sings?
Character: Murata Ken
Word Count: 100
Spoilers: Up to Episode 32.

Ken tries to explain but Yuuri doesn’t really understand. It's okay, he doesn't have to. Ken leans on the rail of the ship, savouring the breeze and listening to Yuuri and Wolfram bicker behind him. He smiles and realises, to his own surprise, that he's genuinely happy for them.

Yuuri is still not paying attention, not yet. He isn’t ready for it. But some day, he will look at his fiance and see the man, not the frightened, blustering child and then... The former Great Sage, witch and current school boy closes his eyes and smiles.

He'll be happy here.

Title: A Return
Character: Ryan
Word Count: 100
Spoilers:

Ryan was neither a superb soldier nor a bad soldier. He simply was a soldier and his commander and comrades commented on his easy-going manner and ready smiles. He knew how things worked and how to march and fight and stand guard. He was a soldier.

It wasn't until the search for the Makeki that anyone realised that, as far as they knew, Ryan had no life beyond being a soldier. So they were happy for him when he moved on. Of course, they'd never known he was quite so fond of animals before...but he was happy.

They hoped.

Title: Planet Hell
Character: The Maou
Word Count: 100
Spoilers: Hmm...probably not much past episode 1.

Peace. Contentment. He sleeps, faintly aware of the world clattering past, of family, people, places and the world around him. He is Yuuri Shibuya but he is also the Maou, King of Demons.

He can call to the spirits and they will answer. He can command the earth to rise and strike down the guilty. He is both the ancient king and innocent schoolboy. This is the way things are and though, at times, he wishes he were always awake, he is mostly content.

He will come into his own one day, but that will wait a little longer yet.

Title: Romance
Character: Gwendal
Word Count: 100
Spoilers: Episode 30

Gunther was fortunate, he realised later, that Anissina was there. As Gwendal clung to the cool, still form and blinked dry eyes, she came to give the orders he had not the heart to give. Gunther trapped in this unlife. Konrad gone but for his left arm. The Mao lost to some unknown fate. Wolfram seeking hope amid the ashes.

She was strong, while he sat beside the bed/coffin and prayed to the Original King that Gunther would be spared. She had ideas, hope while he was sunk in blackest despair. But he liked to think that he helped.
Somehow.

Title: Wanderlust
Character: Gunther
Word Count: 100
Spoilers: Up to Episode 24?

Gunther is a contradiction. He has raised inscrutability to a fine art, perfecting the mannerisims and poise expected of one of his line. Nobility survives by wearing masks. They called him 'Icicle' when he was younger and that was the most useful way to be.

So now he wears a new mask, love-struck Gunther who fawns over the young Mao and writes flowerly prose about him (which he must remember to thank Dorcas for 'discovering'). They laugh, they pity him but no-one sees the covert glances towards the brooding figure he truly pursues. He's waiting now, for the perfect time...

Title: Wishmaster
Character: Wolfram
Word Count: 100
Spoilers: Episode 32

"If wishes were horses, beggars would ride." He can remember Konrad saying that not so long ago, during one of those endless periods while Yuuri isn’t there. It's just a stupid saying! It shouldn't make his eyes blur or his hands shake or his heart hurt. It shouldn't!

Wolfram curls up in the bunk, ignoring his stomach’s churning. He refuses to cry; it would be an insult to that- to his brother. He doesn’t cry, not even when Yuuri sits beside him and puts a tentative hand on his shoulder.

All he can do is wish that things were different.
