Episode 43: Baby Panic at Blood Pledge Castle (or Covenant Castle, or whatever)
Or, more precisely, Why You Shouldn't Let Yuuri and Wolfram Take Care of Your Children
I had 'til tomorrow to get this done, but I'm finished early, so... here you go!!
If you need to see the episode, go
here!
SUMMARY
The episode opens to show Hude, Nicola, and their baby riding in a carriage. They're heading for Blood Pledge Castle.
The title screen appears.
Outside the castle, maids and guards are running around, apparently trying to get the castle ready for... something... There's some talk about not having enough sheets. Yuuri's standing around with Wolfram, Greta, and Conrad and comments on how busy everyone seems to be this morning. He asks if there's something going on.
Wolfram answers him and says that today is the Newborn Ceremony, which, according to Conrad, is a ceremony that occurs once a year where children who were born during that year are presented to Shinou.
Wolfram continues the explanation by saying “Because of that, all children of nobility born this year are gathered at Shinou's temple, and a splendid ceremony is held.”
Common folk are not invited...
Greta asks if there's going to be lots of babies there.
Conrad replies in the affirmative, while Yuuri comments that it's like certain festivals in Japan. He then wonders if it's a nationwide event and if he has to attend. He doesn't seem too happy about the prospect of having to go.
“Duh!” Wolfram says... er... basically...
Yuuri complains that he never heard anything about this. Conrad says the Gwendal and Gunter should have told him the day before.
Someone then screams “Nooo!” It's very obviously Gunter.
The others go to investigate the shouting, and find Gunter in Anissina's lab. She is once again testing one of her experiments on him. Gunter appears to be in much pain.
Yuuri goes over to him to see if he's alright, and is a bit freaked out by a flying insect. Greta thinks it's cute. I think it's disgusting, and Yuuri agrees with me.
Anissina laments that the invention she currently has strapped on Gunter's head is another failure. When Yuuri asks what it is, she says it's a device that amplifies ones magic and allows them to speak to other life forms. She has named it “You-Can-Make-Friends-With-Anyone-kun.”
Conrad asks her why she'd make something like this, and Anissina replies that today is the Newborn Ceremony, and that gathering all of the creatures of the land together to celebrate is a wonderful thing. She then shakes poor Gunter and tells him to try harder.
Gunter asks to be allowed to rest a bit; apparently they've been working on this since last night.
Conrad inquires about Gwendal, who Gunter says was captured by Anissina and used as a guinea pig all day the previous day - hence why neither of them have been able to inform Yuuri about the ceremony yet.
Although Gwendal seems well enough to get some work done.
Anywayz... Hube and Nicola arrive at the castle to greet Yuuri and the others. Greta approaches and gushes over the baby. Baby~!
She asks what the baby's name is and... uhh... well, according to the fansubs it's 'Ernesta' and the baby is a girl, but I'll go ahead and set you guys straight right now. It's a boy, so... we'll go with 'Ernesto.' Whatever... they call it 'Eru' for short.
Yuuri greets the baby and says it's gotten bigger since the last time he saw it, and asks if he's here for the ceremony. Nah, they just felt like dropping by out of the blue...
Yes, Yuuri, they're here for the ceremony.
Conrad comments that Nicola looks happy. Nicola replies that she is, and Hube says that it's thanks to His Majesty.
Yuuri says that he doesn't need to be so formal, then asks if Hube is being a good father.
“Yes,” Nicola replies, “he's very good at looking after him, and he even helps change his diapers.”
Cue surprised look from Wolfram.
“What?! GegenHuber does that?!” Eww~! Nasty, poopy diapers~!
Yuuri says that appearances can be deceiving.
Gisela comes up to the group mingling in the hallway and greets everyone. Nicola apologizes for being late. Gisela says it's alright and asks if she's ready to go. Hube says that he'll be heading off as well. When Yuuri asks where they're going, Hube says he's going to see Gwendal, and Nicola is going with Gisela to help with preparations for the ceremony. Greta asks about the baby, and Nicola says she was going to leave him with the maids.
Wolfram wonders if that would be okay; the maids were pretty busy, after all. Nicola doesn't want to bother them if that's so,and wonders what she should do. Yuuri has a smile on his face...
For some reason... it looks kind of creepy to me...
The scene changes to show Yuuri, Wolfram, and Greta outside by a little baby crib with Eru inside.
Greta is talking to the baby, asking him if he wants to play. Yuuri's apparently making faces at the poor thing, and Wolfram gets excited when the baby looks at him.
Honestly, the baby doesn't seem interested in either one of them. He seems perfectly happy playing with his stuffed dragon.
Either way, Wolfram looks pretty content with watching over Eru.
And there are boneys in the background...
Eru coos and babbles, probably because he can see the boneys. Yuuri notes the stuffed toy, and asks if he likes dragons. He says he's friends with a dragon, and that its name is Pochi. Yuuri reaches out to Eru, and ends up getting whacked in the face.
Wolfram makes a comment about how Yuuri can't even calm a baby. “You really are a wimp.”
“Stop calling me 'wimp!'”
Wolfram moves to fix the baby's blankets, and says that the dragon's name is 'Liesel' anyway. “Don't call it by an undignified name like 'Pochi.'”
Yuuri wonders why Wolfram of all people is outside taking care of Eru. He then proceeds to mock him. And he does quite a lovely impression, if I do say so myself.
Wolfram glances off to the side and says, “It's to prepare for the future.”
Yuuri questions this, but Wolfram doesn't answer. He merely moves to pick Eru up. Yuuri asks him again what he meant by preparing for the future.
Come on, Yuuri, don't you know that one day our precious Wolfram is going to be giving birth to your children?? Didn't Gunter teach you anything about Mazoku anatomy and the male reproductive system?? It's quite different from that of humans...
... kidding...
... or am I???
Eru doesn't like how Yuuri is speaking loudly and begins to cry.
Wolfram, in his surprise, nearly drops the baby (great parenting skills there, Wolfram), though luckily Yuuri catches him and begins to try and comfort him by making funny faces. Eru only cries louder.
Conrad comes up with a bottle and tells him that he's holding the baby wrong. He then proceeds to show him how it's done. Personally, I think he looks good with a baby in his arms.
Eru immediately quiets down. Wolfram, Greta and Yuuri are impressed by Conrad's mad parenting skillz. Yuuri begins questioning said skillz, agreeing with me on my idea that Conrad looks good holding a baby, and then he starts having a mini freak out, seeming to wonder where Conrad had gained such experience and if he might have some mystery child of his own.
Conrad puts the baby back into its bed, saying that Yuuri is mistaken and that he merely looked after Wolfram when he was a baby.
The scene focuses in on Wolfram while Yuuri's making a few comments and Conrad is talking about their mother's unique way of expressing her love and how, because of that, he looked out for Wolfram.
On a balcony up above, we see one of the maids, Doria, watering a random potted plant.
Yuuri says that he can understand a mother's unique love, and reminisces about when his own mother used to dress him up as a girl. He looks very darling, indeed.
Wolfram then starts to reminisce as well.
Gaaaaah!!!!! Soooooooooooo cuuuuuuuuuuute!!!!! XD
Apparently Lady Celi used to sit him in her lap in front of a group of her suitors and let him pick out the person he wanted to be his Daddy.
Yuuri comments that both he and Wolfram had troublesome mothers. Wolfram laughs.
Up above, Doria is still watering the same random plant. She ends up tipping it over, and it falls off of the railing, heading straight towards little Eru. Of course, none of the others are paying a single bit of attention and the plant ends up falling into the crib, the pot shattering. Only then do the others turn to see what the heck was going on.
Luckily, Eru is no longer in the crib, as he seems to have gotten out to get the bottle that Conrad had set aside a few moments ago. Relieved, Greta holds the baby as he drinks, and Conrad looks up to see the two boneys from earlier flying above.
The scene changes to show Stoffel and Raven walking down a hall, with Raven telling Stoffel that they should have made suitable preparations for today. Stoffel thinks that today is a good day to “get in His Majesty's good graces.”
It cuts scenes back to the others, and Eru is once again screaming his lungs out - and Yuuri and Wolfram once again have no idea what to do about it. Stoffel and Raven approach. Stoffel remarks on Yuuri's kindness for taking care of the infants that will be present during today's ceremony. Yuuri asks him what he's doing here, and Stoffel says something that I can't make out because my computer's either being a dickhead or something's wrong with the fansub, but he stops and crouches down a bit to get a look at Eru, saying that his diaper is wet.
Yuuri asks him how he knows this, and Stoffel says he took care of his younger sister in the past. Awwww~! Such a caring older brother~! Except that he used his younger sister to gain power...
At Stoffel's request, Raven takes the baby from Yuuri and sets him down to begin undoing his clothing. Yuuri, Wolfram and Greta are once again impressed when Eru stops crying.
You guys fail... seriously...
Wolfram wonders how Eru can possibly like Stoffel more than he and Yuuri.
Uhh... maybe because you guys obviously don't know what the heck you're doing????
Raven begins the task of changing Eru's diaper, and Stoffel remarks on how well he takes to the task. Raven said he once took care of his niece long ago.
Once Raven has the dirty diaper off and has cleaned the baby, Stoffel tries to put a clean diaper on him. Eru then proceeds to pee-pee in his face. :D
He looks very proud of himself.
Wolfram takes this as a sign that Eru likes he and Yuuri much better, seeing as they didn't get peed on.
Stoffel is not happy and runs off with Raven following him. Conrad finishes putting the clean diaper on and goes to dispose of the dirty one.
Yuuri and Wolfram still aren't paying attention to the baby, and Eru ends up sitting up and crawling off after a butterfly. Once Yuuri and Wolfram finally turn around again, he's gone.
Cue panic.
Great going, guys. Just lose your friend's baby, why don't ya...
At Shinou's temple, Gisela and Nicola are helping set things up for the ceremony. Gisela asks if Nicola should have stayed with her baby instead. Nicola says it's fine. “I left him with His Majesty.”
Yeah... not a good idea...
Murata and Ulrike are sitting up on the steps at the front of the room. Murata is watching Nicola, commenting on her marriage to Hube. He then comments on the baby. “Isn't it often said that a 'different' child will be born to a human and mazoku?”
“Generally speaking, such a child would not have any maryoku, but occasionally there is one born with incredibly strong maryoku,” Ulrike responds. She goes on to say that in the 800 years that she's lived, she's never seen such a child. Murata hasn't either, and according to what people say, Eru is a normal child without any maryoku. She wonders if perhaps the idea of a half-human child being born with maryoku is nothing more than a legend.
Murata says that the possibility hasn't been ruled out. “However, it's unfortunate.”
“What?” Ulrike wonders.
“That cute lady is married. If only I'd come over here earlier!”
Back at Blood Pledge, Yuuri, Wolfram, Greta and Conrad are looking for Eru. Conrad wonders if they should tell Nicola, but Yuuri says he can't just tell her that her child is missing.
Eru is still crawling after the same butterfly that had caught his attention earlier. He ends up falling into a basket of laundry.
One of the maids, Lazania, doesn't notice him and drops a sheet over top of him, then picks up the basket and walks off. As she disappears off screen, the others come around the corner, shouting Eru's name.
Lazania brings the basket into the kitchen and sets in on the table. Sangria walks by with a pile of plates. Doria exclaims that there's a plate missing, and Lazania moves to help the two of them. Once they have their backs turned, the basket topples over and Eru falls into a bucket of hay. Lazania removes the bucket from the kitchen and gives it to Dorcas, telling him to take it too the stables. Dorcas says he's on his way to get some medicine. Lazania tells him to just hurry up and go, and he obeys.
Bitching and moaning, Dorcas heads outside to take the bucket of hay to the stables, and ends up running into Yuuri and Greta. They ask him if he's seen Eru, to which he responds that he hasn't. Wolfram comes up and ushers Yuuri and Greta along.
Another one of the guards approaches and tells Dorcas that Gisela is waiting for him at Shinou's temple. Dorcas remembers the medicine he was supposed to get for her, and fearing that he is going to have to face her wrath, he sets the bucket down and runs off. The other guard also turns to leave.
Eru then climbs out of the bucket, and looks up to see the boneys flying above. He coos and babbles at them.
Cut to Gwendal and Hube. They're talking about the team of people searching for the fourth box when they're interrupted by a guard who says Stoffel would like to speak to Gwendal. Gwendal tells him to deny his request and goes back to looking over a map with Hube. As Hube continues to share his information, the boneys fly by the window, and one of them is carrying Eru. Again, no one notices...
Cut to Gunter and Anissina. Gunter begs for mercy and asks that Anissina stop her experimenting for the day. Anissina's response is to comment that “Men are pitiful creatures.”
Inside her lab, the invention she'd had on Gunter earlier is lifted and activated.
We see a set of eyes open on screen, and then Ulrike gasps. We then see a set of wings.
In the shrine, Ulrike stands, and Murata asks her what's wrong. “Something is coming...”she says.
We see the shadow of a dragon flying above the land.
Stoffel and Raven are shown walking down the hall again. Stoffel is angry that Gwendal did not grant his request to see him and Raven in trying to pacify him. They happen across Eru in the hallway, who's happily playing with his stuffed dragon and has Anissina's invention on.
Stoffel wants to use the child to get to the king, and tells Raven to fetch him something to drink.
Yuuri and the mini search party run into Gisela. They seem a little cornered, and ask Gisela if she should be at the temple preparing for the ceremony. Gisela wonders where Eru is when she doesn't notice the baby with them. Yuuri says he's with Gunter, and Wolfram says he's with Gwendal. They then look at each other and swap stories, with Yuuri saying he's with Gwendal and Wolfram saying he's with Gunter.
Nice try, guys...
Conrad tells them they should just tell the truth. Yuuri's about to explain when there's a large gust of wind. Everyone looks up to see a dragon land by the castle.
At the temple, a shrine maiden comes into to inform those preparing for the ceremony. Ulrike says that someone called the dragon there. Murata gets up to check on the situation, and Nicola is obviously worried about her baby.
That's what you get for leaving him with Yuuri...
Back at the castle, everyone is wondering what the dragon is doing there. Wolfram asks if it's the mother dragon, but Conrad says it's too small to be. Instead, it's Pochi/Liesel. He's grown quite a bit since the last time they saw him.
Gisela notices the two boneys from earlier flying towards the dragon with Eru. They set Eru on the roof of the castle, and he starts cooing and babbling at Pochi/Liesel. Hube tries to go to him, but Gunter stops him and tells him not to provoke the dragon.
Anissina wonders if the baby called the dragon there using her magic device. But could Eru possibly have maryoku??
The dragon roars, which causes Eru to start screaming his lungs out again.
The device activates and Pochi/Liesel starts crying as well.
Yada yada...
Pochi starts destroying the castle unintentionally due to his crying, and Yuuri and Wolfram go off to try and stop him and save Eru. Hube would like to go as well, but is once again stopped. Gwendal tells him to assemble the troops.
Yuuri runs up the stairs, with Wolfram trailing far behind him. Run, Wolfram!! Run!! Come on, you can do better than that!! Who's the wimp now?!
We see Raven running towards the dragon, calling out to Stoffel. Stoffel is trying to climb up and save the baby, still intent on getting on Yuuri's good side. He ends up falling through the roof.
Yuuri climbs on the outside of the castle to get to Eru, calling to him and making another face, but Eru continues to cry. He and Wolfram hear Nicola calling for her son and see that she and Conrad have arrived on the scene. They help Nicola up onto the roof. Once she calls to Eru again and he sees her, he stops crying.
Pochi/Liesel stops crying and roaring, too.
Nicola ends up falling through the roof as well and lands on Stoffel. Yuuri helps the both of them out, and Nicola is finally reunited with her baby. The magical helmet thing falls off of Eru's head, and the mommy dragon comes for Pochi. Yuuri comments that mothers are strong.
Raven comes up with a bottle, and says that it's for Eru from Stoffel. Stoffel jumps up and says that Raven did a good job, then he slips from the roofs and falls. Eru blinks, and then the boneys appear to save Stoffel from plummeting to the ground.
The dragons leave, and Eru waves goodbye to them.
Murata comes just a little too late to get in on the action.
Cut to the Newborn Ceremony. Apparently only five noble couples had a child that year because...well... there's only five of them. But Greta gets to participate in it as well since she was adopted by Yuuri that year.
WTF is up with the dots on Greta's forehead???
Oh... Eru has them, too... Okay, then, it must have something to do with the ceremony.
The others watch the ceremony, and comment on Eru's apparent use of maryoku. Murata says he may signify a new future for the mazoku and humans.
The End.
MY THOUGHTS
My first thought is that Yuuri and Wolfram need to pay more attention to things when a child is involved. I fear for their future children.
My second thought is that Conrad would make a wonderful father, and the fact that he looks good holding a baby doesn't hurt at all. I'll have your babies, Conrad!!!
My third thought is that Wolfram wants to have Yuuri's babies. No joke. I'm serious. Okay, so maybe I'm not... a little... but he does seem to like the idea of expanding their little family (SPOILERS for Season 3)seeing as in episode 82 he made mention of that very thing yet again. His comment about 'preparing for the future' makes it seem as if he's intent on there being a baby in his future with Yuuri (or at least more children), though how he hopes to accomplish this is left up to debate. I'm voting on Mpreg! XD *is shot*
Uhh... let's see... what else... Oh, yeah!! So apparently Eru can use magic to a certain extent. Go figure. Everyone should watch out for him from now on; there's no telling how much trouble he'll be able to cause while talking to animals.
And... that's all. Sorry the end of this seems rushed and that I don't have links to more screenshots like I usually do, but I realized after I offered to pinch-hit that I have three exams this week, so... I had to hurry and get this done as soon as possible. So... yeah...
