Episode 46: The Forest Priestess

Disclaimer: The below comments are liberally peppered with snark and fangirl squees. Neither is intended to slander or demean any character or pairing. More then likely, the harsher the snark, the more I love him/her. It's all intended for good fun.

Kyou Kara Maou Episode 46 Episode: (just click if you can't find the episode download)

The show opens with a vision of night time (I’ve noticed a trend, most of the episodes I host seem to open at night and utilize a full moon. Is there ANY night scene that lacks a full moon? O.o) and a far distant lake.

*cue flashing lights and mysticism and a floating….thing getting beamed up into the sky*

Meanwhile, back at the temple, Murata is examining a chest, and no, it's not Ulrike's!

Perverts.

Accidentally, or so it would seem, the lid moves and Murata screams, "RUN!" as flames gush out in a brilliant display of pyrotechnics.

I think Murata did that on purpose seeing as he jumps Yuuri and pushes him to the ground :D

Anissina reveals that the 'Vorg's Flame Box' was cursed (and rather appropriately too). It would seem that this box is not 'The Mirror at the Bottom of the Sea,' nor is this the first box so mistaken. Everyone and his mother seems to have a box if what Wolfram says is true. I wonder how they found the time to look at 1 million boxes…

I guess Wolfram was particularly enamored with the recent 'Smelly Box' incident. I wonder, did it smell like a mixture of skunk, smelly socks, and stagnant water? What do you think? What would be YOUR ideal combination of smellies to inflict on someone?

"The box has been missing for ages. You won't find it that easily."

Ah, Conrart. Never go away? ♥ You're always so full of common sense ^^

Ahem. Cue timely distraction by Dorcas! Because no one wanted to see me glomp Conrart. *hangs all over him*

There is an urgent message from Sir Brischella (now I want Brushcetta…) Geigen Huber. He thinks the fourth forbidden box is located in a forest three days travel by horse.

"It is a remote forest that has remained uninhabited since ancient times," according to Anissina. Is there anything this lady doesn't know!

But Wolfram appears fairly unimpressed and pessimistic. I think he just doesn't want to leave the castle. Wimp.

---------------Enroute to the Lake------------------

Voices whisper from the grass: "They've come. They've come."

The leaves rustle: "They are not of this forest. They're headed to the lake."

The trees speak: "We must report this to Ondine-sama. Quickly."

Leaves: "Quickly."

Yuuri seems to be mesmerized with how clean the water looks and takes a sip from his cupped hands.

What's this? He's remembering something? It would seem he's tasted this water before even though Wolfram insists that "Water tastes pretty much the same, no matter where you are." It most likely is just a coincidence.

Ahem, after conferring with Hube, Conrart informs us that the box is located at the bottom of the lake and Hube adds, "According to legend, I is supposed to be a box in which lurks a mysterious power."

I find it vastly amusing that when the crew moves out to the center of the lack, they're chanting Yuuri's 'He-he-hoo' to keep them on task XD

Wolfram is not so amused. It would appear that just being on water makes him seasick.

*coddles poor Wolfram*

Eeek! What was that!

Eh? Conrart says they're just Kotsugyozoku? "Sort of like relatives of Kohi?" And they're a rare species? *rubs hands gleefully together* I wonder how much they're worth… *shifty eyes*

[Picture to be uploaded later this evening. It somehow got left out when I uploaded the rest.]

And poor Dorcas. He always seems to get picked on. I mean, why else would he go swimming to the bottom of the lake in full armor!

With the order out to raise the box, fog rolls in and covers the lake. And Yuuri proves to be a member of the Captain Obvious clan. "It's really foggy. I can't see anything." Oh, how I love thee Yuuri! *glomps*

Taken out of context, the above cap makes my GwenGun fangirl squee thinking of secret liaisons and double entendres. I adore how they speak without looking at each other, going so far as to emphasize that fact. Aw, how awkward searching for hidden enemies love can be!

Quickly, they all return to shore.

Hube thinks there are 10 people hidden in the mist. Gunter thinks there are 20. Gwendal shows his concern for Wolfram, asking him if he's capable of fighting (squee!) and Conrart gives the warning.

This group has really learned how to fight together ♥♥♥ So lovely.

I love how frightened Dorcas gets whereas Conrart, Gwendal, and Gunter all calmly face the battle even though they can't see a thing. THIS is what sets them apart!

And because I like pics, have some battle photos.

And just because, I only counted 9 warriors attacking them. Hube seems to have won the bet.

With the arrival of Ondine, the battle ends and we return to a sun-filled existence. She also seems to know how Yuuri is AND they've met before? Where are my shouts of jealousy dear Wolfram! Protect your mate! Or is it that Ondine is so short and cute you can't possibly think that Yuuri would do anything to the 4 thousand (?) year old child?

Personally, I don't really see a resemblance between the two. The child with purple hair looks cuter ^______^ For those who don't remember, Ondine is the one who gave Yuuri water in Episode 1.

Ondine also tells us that the lake has a master who created the fog. Yuuri and co must have scared it when it saw them. If so, why doesn't the big fish get scared when Big Cimaron hijacks the giant floating raft and pulley system?

---------The village hidden in the mist trees----------

Picturesque, isn't it?

Gathered around the geometric shape thing, Ondine tells us a story.

"A long time ago, both the lake and this of rest were barren and devoid of life."

A box falls from a sky into a toxic waste infested red hued lake. Light bursts forth where it entered and turns the lake to clear water and inspire trees to sprout from the ground, fully developed. Since then, Ondine's clan has lived in the forest and guarded the treasure in the lake. But, just a few days ago, someone approached the box (was it hube?), so their guard was strengthened.

Yuuri, being Yuuri, wonders why that's such a big deal to them. Ondine tells him that "the lake and the forest would become barren, and all creatures living in the forest would perish."

In addition, "there are four things that must not be touched" in this world. (That would be Yuuri's chastity, Ulrike's chastity, Murata's super sekrit hidden agenda, and Yosak's pearls. Right?) According to Ondine though, it is the four boxes that seal the EVIL BOSS LORD's powers that Shinou had taken and split up.

Ondine somehow thinks that in order for Yuuri to be looking for the boxes, then His Highness must be back in this world. My, oh my. Ondine is a veritable fount of information! I wonder if there's any backstory fic based on Murata + Ondine out there…

When asked who she is, Ondine causes a crystal ball to appear. She was the genshi miko before Ulrike and hence, privy to the intimate secrets of Shinou's reign. Not that she's going to tell us anything.

*pouts*

Her last mission, should she choose to accept it was to give Yuuri a contract with the lake and this now explains why Yuuri was always able to use water magic so easily. It would seem that she had to step down from her position because she lost her powers and could no longer her Shinou's words.

At least they're being accommodating about the whole thing now. The whole village is willing to sacrifice themselves for the king's whims, allowing their whole way of life to perish because Yuuri needs the box.

Yuuri, whoever, is as always and declares he can't take the box.

Gwendal, being Gwendal, is the voice of reason and claims they can relocate the people of the hidden forest village to a different place. Because if the box is The Mirror at the Bottom of the Sea, they can't just leave it there! Which is perfectly legit. They can't allow Big Cimaron to get their hands on the box.

Yuuri: "Aren't we trying to bring peace to the world? If we sacrifice these people and aren't even able to save this one forest…how could we then deal with the world?!"

Just as Yuuri finishes his declaration, Ondine senses someone approaching the lake.

Her warning was a tad late though seeing as Dorcas arrived on the scene with news that Big Cimaron is stealing the box.

And they don't appreciate the interruption. *sporfles* I still get a kick out of their 'hand-held' canons XD Although I am not impressed with their aiming abilities. I mean, c'mon! The whole group is clustered together! AND THEY'RE NOT MOVING!

You can hit them! Honestly! Except, then, there goes our plot.

At least they were able to light the forest on fire.

Ondine manages to rally the villagers to corrective action, rallying the children (and even Kohi helps!) while the rest work to put out the fires. Let's see how Yuuri's group is handling things ^^

Gwendal seems to be doing just fine, utilizing his earth dragons to smother the flames out. Wolfram and Conrart are merely waving their swords around in an attempt to slice flames in two (shouldn't this be fanning the flames to greater heights?) and I imagine Gunter is trying to use his wind maryoku to stifle the flames as well. At least he appears to be deep in thought XD

While the group is occupied, Big Cimaron manages to capture the box and the red toxic ooze radiates away from the center of the lake, destroying everything.

Yuuri looks absolutely devastated, probably because he just made a huge declaration of protecting the box which backfired immediately. Y'know, it's amazing no one was crushed by a tree seeing as how most of them are toppling like bowling pins in a strike.

I can never get enough of Maou!Yuuri. *licks her lips hungrily* And as always, his methods are rather cruel, summoning the monster of the lake to 'engorge' himself on the big cimaron soldiers. At least they were spit back out on land.

Dorcas looks rather manly when he declares "We’ll be fine now!" after Maou!Yuuri appears. I wonder if Dorcas is part of the Maou!Yuuri fan club, not to be confused with the Shibuya Yuuri/Heika fan club. That one is run by Gunter and he refuses to allow anyone else membership in case his exclusive privileges have to be shared.

Did I mention that Yuuri not only splits the waters, but he always walks on the water? I could crack an allusion about Moses and Jesus, but I won't. I do, however, find it an interesting parallel considering how Yuuri is gradually being shaped into a more beneficial king, he's essentially without sin, and he's the bringer of 'new laws' to Shin Makoku and the world. Thoughts?

And just because I can't resist, another cap of Maou!Yuuri.

Who else finds it interesting that it's Conrart carrying Yuuri rather than Wolfram? I'll admit, I'm a little disappointed that Wolfram doesn't seem to be possessive at all for his fiancé in this episode. I enjoy the lack of verbal accusations, but where's the little things that make me swoon for Yuuram?

But anyways, who cares when Murata arrives on scene! :D

After careful examination, Murata cracks open the lid to discover it filled to the brim with little green, glowing stones. He suspects these stones were used to purify the water and surrounding land. See! The lake was toxic!

Meanwhile, Hube is left in charge of security arrangements to make sure no one tries to seal the box again and rumors are spread throughout the land that this box couldn't possibly be the one they're looking for.

Gwendal seems pleased with Yuuri's praise after he thanks him. I mean, really. Who can resist the cute? Anyways, the box is thrown back into the lake and the world returns to normal.

Meanwhile, a slew Kohi transport Big Cimaron's troops outside the borders.

In thanks for restoring her kingdom the forest, Ondine then divulges a rumor of a rumor concerning the box.

"There's a story I heard in the past. Once, in the lake of a land far, far away from here, there was a box. However, one day, that box was engulfed in light, and rose to the sky and disappeared to another world."

Cue the end of the episode with Yuuri looking up to the sky.

*melts*
