Now where did we last leave that lovable whipper-snapper, the Demon King? Oh, right! He just got his adorable butt saved by Alford and found out that a mysterious villain had stolen the Holy Sword and was using it to commit evil! The nerve!
Now for a recap: There once was some ominous black smoke that turned an ordinary dude into Uber!Dude and made him a zombie and really pissed off.
And Yuuri refused to believe that Alford was committing evil with his Holy Sword.
Sweet and trusting overrule danger, and he talks everyone into setting out to find out what’s going on.
Back in the present, the Evil Zombie Dude’s doing some serious damage with that Holy Sword. Alford thinks Yuuri should run.
Morgif is antsy.
Alford says that this evil power is most definitely NOT the power of the Holy Sword. Murata agrees.
Conrart and Josak try to attack, but get walloped by the dark power.
Wolfram leads Yuuri away for his safety, and Murata tells Alford to come too. Conrart and Josak make their escape once everyone else has a nice head start.
Evil Zombie Dude thinks it’s pretty funny, and keeps ripping up the town.
The next day (or later on? Does the evil make it dark?), everyone’s sitting around debating who put the bunch in Evil Zombie Dude’s boxers.
Yuuri introduces Alford and Murata. Alford is impressed by the Daikenjya, and Murata asks for Alford’s autograph. Mutual love for the win?
After Yuuri and Co. explain why they’re there, Alford conforms that it is indeed his sword that Evil Zombie Dude wields. Shock!
Alford explains that as he was continuing his journey to train his body and hear to be a true hero, he went to this particular village. The eerie atmosphere apparently didn’t tip him off to danger.
He was sleeping one night (with his clothes on, darn it!) and heard a woman’s scream.
The city’s on fire, so Alford runs to the rescue, trusty sword in hand.
The villager tells of a monster running amok and wreaking havoc.
Alford storms in and demands that the monster, none other than Evil Zombie Dude, stop this immediately! But Evil Zombie Dude has taken a fancy to Alford’s fancy sword.
A battle ensues, but Alford goes down and sees a little girl sobbing in terror. He grabs her and is hit by the dark power.
After Alford goes down, Evil Zombie Dude picks up the sword. When Alford woke up, Evil Zombie Dude and his sword were nowhere to be seen.
He’s been chasing Evil Zombie Dude ever since, feeling responsible for the damage since he allowed the Holy Sword to be stolen.
Wolfram wonders how someone who’s not the rightful owner can wield the Holy Sword.
Conrart says that what Evil Zombie Dude is using is not the power of the Sword. Murata agrees, but finding out takes a backseat to stopping the guy.
Josak pulls out his surprisingly chipped sword, showing the damage that power can do.
Conrart acknowledges that they’re no match for it.
Murata looks to Morgif, and says that Morgif might be the best chance to win. Yuuri is skeptical, but Murata says that the swords are rivals.
Yuuri thinks Morgif is useless since he can’t use his power.
Murata asks if Josak still has the power stone or Morgif’s that Yuuri gave him for safe keeping. Of course he does! He’d never throw away a treasure like that.
It’s hidden in a place only he knows, where no one will find it. However, Josak asks Yuuri if he’s sure, as he initially asked Josak to hide the stone so Morgif’s power wouldn’t hurt anyone.
Murata says that it takes a lot to release Morgif’s power, and Wolfram remembers that you’ll need a soul. Murata says that a soul isn’t really needed, just some form of energy.
A flashback shows Shinou wielding Morgif gallantly.
Murata worries that Yuuri may not be able to control Morgif, as their presence in human lands and the unpredictability of Yuuri’s magic might make it difficult.
Yuuri remembers that Murata helped him to control the End of the Land when it went out of control. Murata says that his power is like a booster, that he can use to amplify Yuuri’s power.
Josak thinks that Yuuri isn’t ready to wield Morgif, and is hesitant to give the stone back.
Eyecatch goodness!
Yuuri sits by the river, under Josak and Conrart’s watchful gaze. Josak wonders if he wasn’t too hard on the kiddo.
Alford comes up to Yuuri and says that it must be hard for him, but Yuuri says that it’s how a “half-baked” Demon King like him got anything done.
Alford heard rumors about Yuuri, and how he formed Alliances with human nations.
Alford says that he has also become stronger, not only to defeat Conrart but to defeat the Demon King and his demon sword. Yuuri thinks he should pass on that.
Alford thanks Yuuri for being worried and coming to check on him. Yuuri frets that he’s not able to do anything.
Conrart glares.
He comes to Alford and accuses him of going to confront Evil Zombie Dude by himself. Alford thinks it is his fault for allowing the Holy Sword to be used in this way.
Conrart says that Gilbert, Alford’s father, was much the same. Alford says that he can’t allow Yuuri to be in danger because he might finally change things.
Conrart says that Yuuri would be very sad if anything happened to Alford as he follows Alford toward the village.
That night, Yuuri notices that Alford has not returned. Murata expected that he could go fight on his own, as a hero would.
Josak says that Conrart is with him, and we see a flashback of Conrart telling Josak that someday, Yuuri will do great things with his Demon Sword, but that he’s not ready.
Morgif groans, and Yuuri takes off.
Down in the village, Evil Zombie Dude is wreaking havoc again. Conrart attacks and is thrown unceremoniously into a bunch of crates.
He calls to Alford, who charges and manages to get his hands on the Holy Sword.
Evil Zombie Dude objects, violently.
Alford is forced to drop the Holy Sword.
Yuuri and Co. come running, and Josak protects him from the onslaught. Josak says that Yuuri has no chance to win.
A water pipe bursts, and everyone questions whether Yuuri can really beat him.
After taking cover, Yuuri says that he’s been confused and he’s inexperienced and causes trouble for everyone, but that he has to do this now.
Josak smiles and says that they’re all here now because that’s the sort of King that Yuuri is. He pulls out Morgif’s stone and gives it to Yuuri.
Yuuri asks everyone to believe in him. Then, he approaches Evil Zombie Dude, asking Morgif to lend him power - not to destroy, but to save everyone.
Yuuri is now the Maou, and Morgif is now badass.
The Maou and Evil Zombie Dude clash powers as everyone watches.
Morgif growls and the Maou proclaims justice, and the dark power within Evil Zombie Dude is dissipated.
Nearby, a cloaked figure smiles.
Yuuri is back to himself, and everyone says that the unfortunate possessed man is still alive.
Morgif also turned back to normal, and Murata says that he used so much power that he’s back to his normal self.
Conrart returns the Holy Sword, saying that he looks forward to when Alford will be a hero worthy of the Holy Sword.
Alford thanks Yuuri.
The cloaked figure smiles again and disappears into the light of the rising run.
Murata senses doom.
Gunter is impressed with Morgif’s escapades.
Yuuri asks whether they should take the stone out, and Murata says it’s okay now.
Conrart acknowledges that Yuuri is growing as the Demon King.
Yuuri thinks it’s odd that the man couldn’t remember being possessed. Odd.
Wolfram and Yuuri banter about Yuuri’s degree of wimpiness, while Murata wonders what the power could have been.
My attempts at being profound! (I know you were all so looking forward to it. ^_^)
Alford is back and sexier than ever! I love how the reprise of his character shows how he’s now accepting of Yuuri as the Demon King, and one who does good for the world. Alford now wants to fight Yuuri and Conrart not as antagonists, but because he respects them and considers it an honor. It’s a lovely showing of the long-reaching effects of Yuuri’s goodness. ^_^
(I’m going to try hard not to delve too much into headcanon here, bear with me…) It’s interesting how Yuuri is starting to be able to call his magic when it’s needed rather than only being able to use it by losing control of his feelings. He also didn’t pass out afterwards, and he seemed to remember everything too. Seems to me to be a mark of his maturing as the Maou and his accepting his duties and who he is. I wonder, though, if Murata’s presence has something to do with it? >.>
A few great Josak scenes here! First, his faith in Yuuri has grown a lot from when he accepted Morgif’s stone. In such a short time, he’s been able to see the person that Yuuri is and respect him as a person and as a King. With someone like Josak, respect must be earned so it says a lot about Yuuri that he’s got it.
Murata, too, really shines in this episode. His personality is always somewhat of a mystery, but he always believes in Yuuri and supports him. Now, we see how worried he is about what’s coming and it makes him, the nigh-omniscient Sage, seem very vulnerable. Which is love! Because vulnerable!Murata is love. ^_^
You all had less of my ramblings to listen to than normal, aren’t you glad? Commence fangirling! XD
