Episode 74
真実の支配者
しんじつ の しはいさ
The Governor of Truth
We begin the episode with a recap of the events of last episode.
After the title screen, we first see Shinou in the forcefield prison. "You never cease to amaze me. As expected of the strategist I chose. I doubt you believe you can keep me contained."
We then return to our heroes as Josak lifts Wolfram, Yuuri saying to Wolfram "hang in there. You'll be okay, right?"
They load Wolfram into a carriage and rush back to Blood Pledge Castle, with Greta worrying over whether Wolfram is dead as Gwendal and Conrad begin shaking (in grief, rage, or a mix of both?)
Back at the castle, Shouri looks over Wolfram, wondering how something like this happened. "Weren't you going to protect Yuuri, no matter what?! Yet you let something like this happen to your own brother... What were you thinking?!"
Yuuri jumps into Conrad's defence, saying Conrad and the others are always protecting him. "If only... I hadn't moved my hands then... this wouldn't have happened."
Gisela looks over Wolfram, and then looks to Murata for guidance. When he nods at her she begins an attempt to heal Wolfram. The attempt fails when something appears to be blocking her powers.
Anissina enters at this point, saying there is no need to abandon hope just yet. Cheri asks her what she means, and Anissina replies that Wolfram isn't dead yet. Greta is quite happy to hear this, while the others seem somewhat shocked.
She tells them to bring Wolfram to her laboratory because it's necessary to preserve his body since treatment is not possible at current time.
Gunter realizes she means he'll be put into the same machine that his own body has been put into. Dacascos wonders if this will be alright, and Gisela yells at him to follow Anissina's orders.
Anissina turns to Gwendal and waves her hand in front of his face. "That left eye of yours can no longer see; am I right?"
She turns to Conrad and confirms that his left arm is unable to move. This means that when the keys were taken from them, the function of those areas was also removed.
Yuuri realizes this means that Wolfram was a key, and his key was his heart. He then asks Conrad if he knew about it. Cheri says that it's her fault, when she realized Conrad and Gwendal were keys, she thought that maybe Wolfram was as well.
Yuuri protests that that would be too much of a coincidence, but Murata says it's not coincidence because it was all part of Shinou's plans. Yuuri asks why Murata didn't say anything about it, but Cheri says she asked him not to. Wolfram hadn't realized the truth about himself, and so she hoped nothing would happen. Shouri steps forward to confront Murata, "didn't you already know that it would turn out like this? Even though you knew what would happen, you still let Yuuri and the others get close to the boxes." Murata confirms that he did indeed anticipate this, ever since the boxes were sealed, he and Shinou had feared that something like this would happen.
Yuuri interrupts, asking that if Soushu was the one who was sealed in the box, why was it Shinou who appeared. Conrad asks Murata to explain the truth behind everything. Murata starts by explaining that the circumstances surrounding Shinou's death were never recorded because they couldn't let the truth be known.
We now return to the past, starting with Rufus Bielefeld speaking with Shinou, saying they have been defeated again, this time at the southern border. Humans from neighboring countries have invaded, attacking villages along the southern border, resulting in much damage. Grantz wants to quickly step in and crush the humans, but Daikenja tells him to wait as needless fighting will only fan the flames. Shinou states (after a brief pause while his apparent anger fades) that for the time being he will send a letter to these neighboring countries and ask them to suppress those that are acting out of bounds. He doubts that they'll disobey, as there aren't many brave enough to take on their nation.
Later, the two Wincott brothers speak to each other; with the younger brother Christel wondering when they'll finally have peace and wondering if they'll ever see Caloria again. Older brother Erhard asks Christel if he finds this country beautiful. Christel is shocked at first, but then agrees that he does find the land beautiful.
Erhard goes on to say that trying to bring peace across the entire word (he words it much differently, but that's what he means), is a foolish idea.
Daikenja appears, agreeing with this sentiment as even Shinou's powers have their limit. "Even in the battle against Soushu, victory was possible only with everyone's collective effort." Erhard understands, but says that lately Shinou has...
Cut to a scene of a wine goblet falling to the ground and Shinou in obvious pain.
Some time later, we see Lawrence Weller appear at the castle, asking to have an immediate audience with Shinou. After greetings are exchanged, Daikenja notes that Lawrence must have ridden all the way from Shimaron by himself, something rather reckless as he is now the ruler of a country. Lawrence replies that he had to come personally, no matter what. Shinou asks what happened, and Lawrence says he heard of unrest in countries to the east, they are preparing for war. Rufus realizes they mean to declare war on Shin Makoku, while Siegbert Voltaire feels it is foolish. Lawrence asks to be given permission to try and persuade these people, who have forgotten Shinou's defeat of Soushu, as well as having fear of those with power; and asks that they be granted mercy for now. As Lawrence speaks, the castle begins to shake in reaction to Shinou's rage. "Ingrates. How long must you trample upon our hopes until you are satisfied? Had I not taken arms, Soushu would have engulfed and destroyed everything! If you must defy me so... then with my own hands... I might as well..."
The others look on in shock as Shinou rages, but Daikenja steps up to Shinou and tells him to calm down, saying that everyone is well aware of how he feels. Shinou sits and tells them all to forget what he just said, as well as apologizing for his outburst.
That night, Lawrence speaks with Erhard, wondering what happened to Shinou. "He isn't the type of person to say things like that." "He must be exhausted. He's irritated because he cannot personally go into battle and be on the front lines like before." "You're right. Things have changed from when we raced through the battlefield."
In a different room, Daikenja confronts Shinou, asking him if he thought he could deceive him. "No. Everything is transparent to you, soukoku no Daikenja. Another wave of pain comes over him and Daikenja asks if it's Soushu. Shinou agrees and we see a short flashback to the fight with Soushu. Shinou says that he definitely struck Soushu with Morgif, but as the mass separated into four pieces, some stray strands entered into his hand. He then lifts his sleeve to show the blackness spreading on his arm.
"At this rate, I will be engulfed by the fury within me and wreak destruction... just like Soushu." He decides to abandon his body, and Daikenja declares that he will also fulfill his role. "I won't allow that!" "Do you think this an opponent you can defeat by yourself? You are always so reckless. Who knows what you would do if I were not around?" "I guess you're right. I need you."
Later we see Erhard looking at the boxes asking Daikenja why it has come to this. "I can't believe you did this without discussing it with us!" "This is something that Heika had decided by himself." He holds up a small orb and when asked what it is, replies that it is Shinou's soul. He says he will keep it safe in a place where Soushu cannot poison it further, and that they will also be separating the boxes.
We return to the present, where Murata says that it was definitely Soushu who has sealed in the boxes. Shinou was drawn to Soushu's power, sealed away in the boxes; and has now been completely absorbed. Josak wonders if gathering all the boxes really WAS a bad idea, but Murata says that no matter what, the seals were on the verge of breaking. Erhard had mostly likely feared this would happen and decided to send one box to Earth. Hearing the name Erhard, Gunter remembers the diary that he found one day in the library and runs off to get it. Murata confirms that it is indeed Erhard's diary. We see another short flashback to the Wincott brothers as they discuss Christel going to Earth.
Gunter continues reading from the diary. "That was a forbidden box that must never be opened again. I believe that as long as it is protected by my younger brother Christel in that faraway world, it will be safe." Murata states that Erhard was very angry about what they had done, and also very worried. He says it was probably no coincidence that Gunter happened to find this diary at this time.
Yuuri worries over them destroying what Erhard had worked for and allowing Soushu to be released, but Shouri notes that they have not yet lost. "Only three of the boxes have been opened. It's because the fourth key is missing." Yuuri: "Which means..." Conrad: "The last box will not open." If they're going to beat him, now is the time.
Wolfram is now ready for transport to Anissina's lab, and as the girls (Gisela, Greta, Cheri, and Anissina) follow the soldiers carrying him; Yuuri declares that he will save Wolfram. Whether this being is Soushu or Shinou, if he's beaten, Wolfram may be able to be saved. Conrad immediately states his intentions to accompany Yuuri, and Josak also agrees to go. Shouri wants to go as well, but Yuuri says no; Shouri can't use maryouku at present, it just goes out of control. Conrad points out that Yuuri is worried about Shouri, and follows Yuuri to get everything prepared for this journey.
Shouri is left alone with Ulrike, who tells that he has power just no idea how to use it. But she may be able to guide him.
At this the episode ends.
As far as my thoughts on the episode go... I really don't have any. ^_^ Save that I'm glad to see the old crew from Shinou's days make a reappearance. Especially the Wincott brothers as I have decided that I really like Christel. His character design, anyway.
Maybe I can think up more things for tomorrow's post...
The story now heads into it's true climax.
Next episode (75) to be hosted by me. Now to go work on it...
