Episode 75
太陽と月
たいよう と つき
The Sun and the Moon
We start out with more recaps, this time showing how each of the boxes was found/recovered.
After title screen, we turn to Anissina's lab, and Yuuri looking at Wolfram (Conrad is also there). He again states his intention to save Wolfram, and a thought of Wolfram saying he must have fallen really low to need to be saved by a wimp.
He leaves the laboratory with Conrad, and says whether it's Soushu or Shinou, he won't lose and will definitely save Wolfram (freaking broken record). Yuuri also states the need to restore Conrad's left arm and Gwendal's left eye (why is everything on the left side of the body?) He also quite cutely calls Conrad "onii-chan" (big brother) XD
As they walk past, they hear a baby crying and see Hube, Nikola, and El. Murata later states that El is very sensitive. Hube states that ever since the boxes were gathered, a lot has been happening around El. Yuuri says El must be sensing the changes. Hube asks to be brought along to the confrontation with Shinou/Soushu and Yuuri agrees.
Next is a conversation between Gwendal and Gunter. Gunter asks if Gwendal feels conflicted, and Gwendal answers that he doesn't think they can beat Shinou/Soushu. This is the country that Shinou created, and he has protecting them all this time; therefore everyone's resolve will waver. Gunter feels that since Shinou now has Soushu's power, fighting him head on would be rash. But despite all of this, he still has hope; he will follow Yuuri-heika wherever he goes. "He is always reckless, but that will open the way. I believe in the future that Yuuri-heika is heading towards." Gwendal laughs and says that Gunter's been infected by Yuuri's optimism. "As people of Shin Makoku, we should obey Shinou's wishes, no matter what, even to the extent of destroying this nation... That is what we have been doing up until now." However, Gwendal will not abandon his younger brother's life.
Preparations for departure are now complete, and the party is ready to ride out and face Shinou/Soushu. Yuuri reassures Greta that he'll save Wolfram, and she gives him a small kitty that Anissina taught her how to knit, she wants Yuuri to take it as a good luck charm. Yuuri says it's much better than what Gwendal (who overhears them) makes.
Josak is wondering if it wouldn't be better to leave Conrad and Gwendal behind, as their injuries may hold back the others. Conrad says he doesn't want to have any more regrets. Josak says this may be more hopeless than the battle 20 years ago, and that they are fools to willingly go right into it. Gwendal interrupts, saying they don't have time for chit-chat, and Josak walks over to his horse. Cheri walks over to Conrad and Gwendal and states that everything is her fault, but Conrad tells her it's not. Gwendal also reassures her, and she tells them to be careful. Anissina tells the boys not to worry about the women, as she will not be making any mistakes during their absence. Yuuri tells her to take care of Wolfram, and then he and the others ride out, leaving the women and Shouri behind.
Shouri tells Ulrike to hurry up and teach him to use majutsu, but she tells that he must first calm down. They have a conversation about Shinou, and Shouri still wonders whether Murata can be trusted. He feels that Murata is still hiding something. Ulrike: "Together with Shinou-heika, geika also built this country and has protected us all this time." Thus ends the conversation; and we return to Yuuri and the others.
As they approach the temple, Morgif starts to be very noisy, and Yuuri wonders whether it would have been better to leave him behind, since Shinou was his original master, so it might be hard for Morgif to fight him. Morgif appears to disagree with this assessment, but Yuuri wonders if Morgif isn't pushing himself. Murata says that Morgif would rather save his current master than Shinou. "The past is the past. We can't indulge ourselves in memories and destroy the present." "Murata, you..." Conversation ends here as they have now arrived at the temple. Gwendal reminds them all to stay on guard. Even though Shinou is trapped in the barrier, they still don't know what could happen.
As they walk through the temple, Josak feels that it's rather anti-climatic due to the lack of noise. Gunter reminds him that this doesn't mean nothing is there. Shinou Soushu is there opponent. Immediately afterwards they are attacked and surrounded by some strange soldier/doll things.
After the break, we return to Earth. Miko is wondering what's going on with the water; while Shouma wonders what actually happens when the boxes are opened. Miko wants to go rescue her sons, but Bob states that something is coming. Freaky black smoke-like stuff starts rising out of the water and forming into hands. One hand starts to come towards them when the woman (I forget her name) starts shooting at it, telling them to get back. Bob tells her it's useless as the things do not have an actual body. The blobs of blackness begin to take on human forms, and while Jose wonders what they should do, we leave them and return to Shin Makoku.
Yuuri recognizes these dolls as the same kind that had attacked in an earlier episode (anyone want to refresh my mind on which episode?). Conrad states that no matter how many times they're cut down, they just get back up. Gwendal says they need to attack the source, not the dolls themselves. The source would, of course, be Shinou. Or Soushu, as Murata corrects. He states that the ones from before were being controlled by Soushu's powers leaking from the boxes. We also learn of what else Soushu's powers have been doing the last few episodes.
Yuuri asks just what Soushu is, and then declares that he will defeat and runs forward. They arrive back at the room where Shinou/Soushu is being restrained by the barrier and Yuuri tells him to stop the dolls. "You didn't like my welcome?" "Like anyone would!" Shinou/Soushu then shuts the doors behind them, presumably stopping the dolls as well. Before Yuuri can run forward and confront Shinou/Soushu, Josak stops him and tells him to look at the barrier. It is starting to break apart. Shinou tells them there's no need to rush to their deaths. He will break out soon, and darkness and chaos will engulf the world. He saved the world once; it's his to do with as he pleases. Yuuri wonders if he really has been completely absorbed by Soushu, if is this really what he wants. The barrier finally breaks, releasing Shinou. Conrad grabs Yuuri to protect him from the flying shards of the broken barrier, and Gunter protects them both with a force-field.
Josak steps forward to attack Shinou, but Shinou easily repels him. Gwendal attacks next with majutsu, but just like Josak, is easily repelled. Shinou wonders if they're done already. Now that his powers have revived, he'd like to be able to test them out. Murata laughs softly, telling him he's as childish as ever. "And you are always scolding me."
Yuuri demands that Shinou give Wolfram back, and Shinou removes the keys from the boxes. Murata says that since the boxes have been opened, they are no longer needed as keys. Yuuri steps forward, but Conrad stops him, getting attacked slightly in the process. After exchanging some words about why Conrad protected Yuuri, Shinou decides to return the keys; one of them flying up out of the temple and towards the castle.
As Yuuri watches the final one fly away, Morgif starts to make a lot of noise. Murata steps up behind Yuuri, apologizes and then pushes Yuuri towards Shinou/Soushu, who captures him.
As the others are captured as well, Gunter asks what Murata's just done; but Murata doesn't answer. Shinou states that he's been waiting for this moment, calling Yuuri his vessel. Saying the others have now played their roles, he makes them disappear.
They appear just outside the temple, a very sad Morgif with them. Inside the temple, Shinou has Yuuri in some sort of force-field of his own; and Murata states that this world does not need two suns.
Heck of a cliffhanger to end the episode on, but we've seen it before with this series.
Like my previous episode, I don't have too much in the way of thoughts regarding this episode.
A few main points:
• Shouri's mistrust of Murata seems to have been paid off with Murata's apparent betrayal of Yuuri.
• Conrad reinforces his position of saving Yuuri because he's Yuuri.
• Cheri is still blaming herself for what's happened.
• Shinou seems to be planning to use Yuuri as some sort of new vessel/body.
If anything else comes up in the comments, I'll discuss it then.
Next episode (76) also hosted by me.
