What's Next? The Ultimate Weapon?! or a summary in 200 words or more. Pictures are linked in the text for easier loading ^_^ Caps will be shown as needed for the characters.
Our tale starts off with Yuuri at home and
happily dressing in a dashing blue uniform reminiscent of many baseball uniforms, or so it would appear. However, he gets a rather nasty surprise at breakfast when his mother
pulls out the g-string and tells Yuuri he’s not only to young for such things, but g-strings just don’t become him! Something tells me he'll never get a girl if even his mother disapproves of his fashion sense, but of course, we already know that’s okay because he’s already snagged Wolfram!
Except Wolfram’s character can be as demanding and possessive as a girl. Wolfram may want to work on that if he doesn’t want to drive Yuuri away.
Ahem, but thankfully, Yuuri is saved by the bell with Muraken’s timely arrival!
Of course, this also begs the question of: Why is Muraken Yuuri’s baseball manager if they go to different schools? They were wearing different uniforms in that first episode, y’know.
But yes, baseball. After a nice, relaxing game in which Yuuri seems to strike out (or at least he gets a strike), Yuuri and Murata run off to the bathhouse and
make eyes at each other bathe in front of Mount Fuji. Yuuri, once again, gets
sucked down the drain while Murata sings “If you go on a journey…” while scrubbing his armpits.
To which we are now in Shin Makoku! It only took half the episode to get him back there. And to what delights we find but
three hot men and the
one there looks especially drool-worthy. Two of the men seem to have a fetish for cute beings and happily embark on exploring Yuuri’s ‘uncharted terriotory.’ Until the
utterly beautiful Gunter sacrifices his body for the sake of his king.
Thankfully, Gunter managed to get away before to much damage occurred and sits Yuuri down at a desk in the library of Castle Walde. And yes, it is Gunter’s home. Isn’t his castle so pretty…
*glomps Gwendal*
Ahem, Yuuri, of course, would rather not do all
the paperwork for the kingdom and tries to delegate Gunter into doing them for him. Except Gunter isn’t having that. Nope! Petitions to build dikes and tax distribution MUST be taken care of by the king! After all, it’s the Maou’s duty.
Question: Did anyone else get the sense that Gunter was testing Yuuri here? Just a little bit? I mean, they did just come straight out of a bad situation with Celi who delegated all of her duties to Stoffel and look at how that turned out… Or so we’ve been told in Episode 1.
Anyways, now we get to the plot! What plot? You mean, there’s an actual purpose to this episode? Well, yes, and it has to do with war because the humans are getting restless and Shin Makoku needs to be prepared for all obstacles!
Of course, Yuuri refuses, even saying how he wouldn’t sign a single document with war written in it. Which is a shame, because I’m sure there’s a little piece of paper in there which proposes a study on how to end war and bring about world peace. Now that will never happen, mores the pity.
Anyways,
Gwendal comes in, seems miffed at the fact Yuuri is there uninvited AND that he doesn’t know what he’s talking about considering Yuuri’s spouting the about nonsense and even if Yuuri did know what he was saying, he doesn’t have an idea of how to avoid war at all. Yuuri just demands and expects that it be so. Yuuri’s also a little naive and seems to think that talking it out will solve all their problems. Poor Yuuri, forever an idealist just like Releena. /gundam wing reference. But in the meantime,
Cabalcade is disguising himself as a Sondarian guard and hiring human mages in order to fight evenly against Mazoku magic.
At least
Conrart scolded Gunter and Gwendal for conferring on such important matters without first informing Yuuri. Go Conrart!
And now cue
Anissina and a
fear-stricken Gwendal! Anissina commends Yuuri for his ideals since war only troubles women and children and offers her newest invention for his use. The first is a
wind maker meant to blow
men, horses, and ships off course and the second is an
earthquake instigator. Oddly enough, Gwendal is happily absent from these meetings and Gunter once again becomes a worthy sacrifice for Yuuri’s cause.
Neither machine works as impressively as Anissina had hoped.
After things have calmed down a little, Yuuri tells Conrart, “It is a Maou's responsibility to confer with someone he can trust,” and runs off to ask Gwendal what HE think they can do to prevent war from happening.
Gwendal, of course, questions him, and surprisingly we find out that Yuuri cares for Shin Makoku just as much as Gwendal does. Quite commendable considering this is only Yuuri’s second visit to this strange new magical realm. I think Wolfram might have
melted just a little when Yuuri said this. Gwendal, of course, does have a plan and Gunter divulges the key details. Namely, that if Yuuri can regain possession of Morgif (or Merigubi if you’re Yuuri), then all nations will think twice of dealing badly with Shin Makoku.
Yuuri, of course, faints at finding out that as a demon king, he must wield a demon sword. Poor Yuuri; he just never seems to catch a break from this whole demon business does he?
Character: Yuuri’s Father = Shouma:
- Is currently at a business golf outing.
- His name looks like "Katsuma" in written form, but it's pronounced "Shouma."
- Yuuri’s father proposed to Jennifer on the fifth date and proceeded to have two children, the first is Yuuri’s older brother.
- In a flashback, Shouma tells Jennifer that "Mazoku are not very different from humans to begin with." This was in relation to their first child’s lack of wings. Is this where Yuuri gets is later doctrine from?
- Is asked to implant Conrart’s ‘spirit’ into his son. Which obviously happens otherwise there wouldn’t be a Kyou Kara Maou anime series.
Character: Yuuri’s older brother = Shou-chan:
- Did not have wings when he was born.
- Is in college and likes to sleep late because he’s out all night partying.
Character: Yuuri:
I have to ask this, but what is up with the above screencap! Seriously, every time I see it, I think Yuuri looks like a clown. *is amused*
- Is back and playing baseball again!
- Quote: "Although it's only recreational, I wonder what they would say if they knew I've picked it up again." --> I find it interesting that Wolfram, Gwendal, Gunter, and Conrart were both shown in the flashback. Shouldn’t it just be Conrart considering he’s the only one with a clear idea of what baseball was.
- Has difficulty asking his mother about his mazoku origins. Little does he know his mother already knows he’s to be the Maou of a different world. She says, "Can a fidgety child like that really hold such an important position as the Maou?"
- Jennifer thinks that Yuuri has an ‘aggression’ issue.
- Jennifer thought that Yuuri is a 'Pretty name that sounds like it's from a shoujo manga."
- Something happened in Middle School to force Yuuri to quit baseball. He describes himself as just being a ‘benchwarmer.’
Character: Yuuri’s Mother = Jennifer:
- Is into fantasy stuff and in fact surrounds herself with it.
|
|
- Insists on being called Mama.
- Believes that
mazoku children should have wings.- Thinks boys are boring and even has pictures show casing how she tried to make Yuuri dress up like a girl and do ‘cute’ things.
|
- Was not phased at all when she found out that her husband to be was mazoku and was actually quite excited about it.
- She tries not to nag. She “let's [Yuuri] do what [he] wants with [his] studies and baseball, and [she] avoids strict discipline.”
- Even pregnant, Jennifer still thinks she's sexy enough to hitchhike her way to the hospital!
- Jennifer used to be called Hamano Jennifer and was pretty famous back when she was a student (used to fence).
Character: Murata Ken:
- "The recreational team temporary manager Murata Ken, nickname Muraken, has come for his captain!
- Murata became the manager as thanks for being saved the other day.
- Looks sexy without his glasses on ♥
Character: Earth’s Maou:
- Jennifer describes Earth's Maou as being a 'hollywood mazoku' complete with castle.
- Introduced Conrart to Shouma
Character: Conrart:
- Scolds Gunter and Gwendal for withholding information/conferring without Yuuri.
- Knows the proper way to drink wine! Don’t believe me? Look at the below cap ^_^
- Conrart should
wear white more often. He looks younger AND more open! Perhaps Conrart uses his uniform as a shield against the outside world? Kind of like a security blanket?
- Conrart helped deliver his own brother. Of course, Jennifer misinterprets and think his brother had a baby.
- Jennifer describes Conrart as a 'handsome pro fencer who seemed like a cool breeze was around him!" Oddly enough, Shouma knew exactly who Jennifer was referring to when he heard this description.
Relationship: Jennifer & Shouma:
- Shouma fell in love with Jennifer at first sight at a party some twenty years before present.
- Shouma proposed on the fifth date by asking Jennifer if she would like to see first hand if any of his children would have wings after telling Jennifer he was a Mazoku.
Character: Wolfram
- To me, Wolfram didn’t really play a big role in this episode but I do find it interesting that Wolfram immediately ran to Yuuri and started scolding him for disappearing during the inauguration ceremony. I think he’s feeling a little insecure here as Yuuri’s fiancé.
Character: Gunter
- Becomes a willing sacrifice in order to save Yuuri on multiple occasions.
- Took the liberty of sorting Yuuri’s paperwork in order to help his king out.
- Was insulted at Yuuri’s suggestion that he handle it completely.
- I love how Gunter tries to play devil's adovocate and asks Yuuri, “what will we do then when they attack. Will they surrender without lifting a finger?” on the question of preparing for war.
- Why does Gunter have all that paperwork on hand? I would think they'd be more concerned about losing it in transit then hoping for the off chance that Yuuri will show up...
Character: Gwendal
- Seems to be Anissina’s guinea pig for her experiments.
- Seems to have a
nervous habit when he gets irritated or frustrated?
- Gwendal’s information network is so phenomenal no one can question it’s validity. He also has his own personal army who relay messages to forces everywhere.
- When scolded by Conrart on behalf of Yuuri for conferring with Gunter on the matter of war, Gwendal retorts with, “I'm sure the kids have stuff to talk about.” The kids, of course, are Wolfram and Yuuri.
Character: Anissina
- Lady Anissina von Khrennikov is of a lower rank among the royal nobles which is why she couldn't speak directly with Yuuri even though she was at his inauguration ceremony.
- She is Gwendal’s childhood friend.
- In reference to Yuuri’s and Gwendal’s little ‘spat’ on war, Anissina says, “"What are you all doing? If you're going to get rowdy, do it outside. The dust will get everywhere." I also have to wonder if
Gunter and Wolfram were holding Yuuri back because they were trying to protect Yuuri from Gwendal’s wrath or (less likely) the other way around?
Magical Item Morgif/Merigubi
- Legendary weapon held by the Mazoku that only the Maou can use.
- It is an ultimate weapon that could destroy everything in this world.
- Last used eight Maous ago.
- The other nations will think twice about attacking them if Morgif is in their possession.
- It's located 'far away, across the ocean, on an island called Bandarbia.
- Yuuri wants to know if it's a sword like Ragnarok, Excalibur, or the Orichalcon, a holy sword that you need to defeat the last boss!
- Gwendal is not so pleased with Yuuri's insistence on 'human' things XD It's a demon sword Yuuri!
