Episode 13: Bride and Yuri and Gwendal

If you need to watch the episode, check out this post (community locked) for information!

Sorry for the "Image converted" things on top, but paying for software stinks. Anyone can rec a free one that'll convert in batches and not mark the pics?

Let’s see, where did we last leave things…ah yes. An unlikely pair of adorable men in hoodies riding across the desert. Note that Yuuri’s about to drop dead and Gwendal’s barely broken a sweat.

And darn, they’re out of water, too.

And handcuffed to boot. Aren’t these things breakable, Gwendal? Yuuri’s sick of being in such close proximity to your hotness grumpiness. Sorry, kid, they’re made of Esoteric Stone (or Houseki, if you prefer). But it’s all good, because they’ve reached Svelera anyway, home to this very pointy building.

As people look at the two and get very much the wrong idea, Yuuri tries to snag some water from a well, but Gwendal wants to yank him around by the leash handcuffs instead.

So they go off in search of a church what can hopefully break the Magic Cuffs. Instead, though, they crash a wedding.

The priest wants them, a couple who obviously is far more experienced in the waysof love, to say something. And Yuuri of course can’t resist.

The rite of three bags. First, bag of Ikebukuro, or “pond bag.” The second is an emergency bag. The third?

Uh…Gloves! That’s it! Because once a glove finds its mate, it gets handcuffed to it’s fiancé’s brother! Uh, wait.

Whatever he said, it makes the bride toss her veil and bouquet asunder and leave her jilted groom at the altar! That’s our Yuuri, Patron Saint of Love.

The bride drags Yuuri and by default, Gwendal, along with her as the Mohawk brigade from earlier closes in.

The girl, Nicola, reveals that she’s pregnant! And more than that, the father’s not the man she was about to marry! How scandalous!

Also, she knows Lord Griesela Gegenhuber, Gwendal’s cousin - in fact, the crudely drawn poster is her and Hube. She seems pretty impressed to meet his family member, but Gwendal is really pissed about something.

Meanwhile, Conrart and his random soldier underling have found Wolfram, who is a bit rumpled but no worse for the wear, unless you count his attitude.

He is NOT happy about Gwendal, who loves cute things, and Yuuri, “a natural flirt” pshaw! being alone together. But in any case, they are going to try and meet up with them is possible. Wolfram encourages Conrart to teach Yuuri the sword, and hard ooh, baby!, just like Conrart did with Wolfram when they were young, so he won’t fall into these situations anymore.

And during the Sand Bear ordeal, a guy named Ryan totally deserted to meet his “Destined One.” (Spoilers) Interspecies love, anyone?

Back to Yuuri and Nicola and poor Gwendal who is probably wishing for some yarn and his knitting needles right about now. Hey, a cute little boy! And he’s telling us to follow him! Sure, why not? *headdesk*

In any case, the little boy leads them to an abandoned house which would be perfect for a blanket scenario if there were snow [/fanfic cliché], where the little boy, Jilta, introduces himself as a half-demon. His father, a Demon Tribesman, had a child with a townswoman.

Jilta’s father died, and his mother now works in the quarries as punishment. Turns out that for human women, falling in love with a Demon Tribesman is against the law, and as criminals they are sent to the quarries.

That’s where Nicola met Hube, who was passing through on his quest for the Demon Flute. They fell in love, if the sunset-kiss-mood is a proper indication.

And cue Gwendal threatening mortal peril on Hube…

…and Yuuri flailing and trying to ease the tension. He tries to offer some water, but the skin is empty and the well is dry from a two-year mega drought, so Nicola offers her wedding ring to send Jilta to buy fruit.

With innocent young ears out of reach, Nicola starts up on the backstory again. Hube told Nicola that the Demon Flute could make it rain, so she helped him to break into a church and swipe it. *yoink*

After that, they were pursued and found at a lodge. They tried to flee with the Demon Flute, but they suck at fleeing and got caught - hence, the rumor that the “Maou” had skipped out on a bill somewhere. Nicola offered to marry the son of the lodge owner in exchange for Hube’s life. And now, she’s worried that her child will have a rough life, too, because of her crime of falling for the wrong guy.

But! She does still have the Demon Flute.

Yuuri would really love to try it, Gwendal, but Jilta is back with odd purple fruit! Can’t play the Demon Flute on an empty stomach, and all.

Yuuri tries to play it and… *drumroll*

A resounding amount of nothing. Bah.

Meanwhile, in Shin Makoku, Gunter is mulling over the possibility of Yuuri finding the Demon Flute, making it rain, and getting all wet and sexy.

And then Anissina comes up totally ruining the mood and reporting that thinking about 20 years ago makes her sad.

Apparently, Suzanna Julia’s death was partially brought about by Gegenhuber, who spread rumors about humans. As punishment, Gwendal sent him to seek out the Demon Flute which had been missing for 200 years, effectively banishing him. It was the harshest punishment Gwendal could give to a family member.

But nevermind the backstory! Anissina can make it rain right now! After the requisite transformation sequence, o’course.

And behold! Make-It-Rain-Immediately-kun!

Gunter is…less than thrilled.

Back at the plot, Gwendal and Yuuri’s building gets surrounded by Mohawk Men!

Jilta knows a sneaky Bat Cave way out, and Gwendal tells him to take Nicola with him. On the way out, Jilta says that Hube is a really nice guy, the one who picked him up and brought him to his Grandpa to live, and he even came to visit sometimes.

Gwendal dashes out, trying to valiantly buy Nicola some time to escape.

And he would totally succeed if it wasn’t for Yuuri’s dead weight on his arm. Yuuri trips and falls and Gwendal throws himself on top of him!

But no, Yuuri, it wasn’t to protect you, it was because he dropped Bandou-kun. Don’t go getting a big head, now.

There was a ton of backstory revealed here. Allow me to start with Gwendal. *grin* His stoic nature has Yuuri more than a bit freaked out, but for once they can’t avoid each other, being that the plot has conveniently handcuffed them together and all. Gwendal’s anger over Hube is obvious, and when you hear Anissina’s convenient explanation about Hube and his actions during the war, it’s obvious why Gwendal is so mad. And yet, his first priority is saving Nicola and the baby. And then, Gunter says that Gwendal went easy on Hube by banishing him, because even Gwendal didn’t want to do any worse to a family member.

More than that? The fact that Gwendal saved Yuuri’s cute butt at the end there and then claimed that it was only that he dropped the Bandou keychain was adorable! His pride won’t let him show it, but Gwendal’s actions show that he does have a warn heart under all that gruff hot exterior. <3

There the scene with Wolfam and Conrart was very cute! Wolfram wanting Conrart to teach Yuuri to protect himself was sweet on a number of levels, as was Conrart’s constant reference to the engagement and telling Wolfram to trust Yuuri more. The conversation was truly adorable. *melts* Although the fact that Wolfram is very concerned with Gwendal and Yuuri hooking up is a total mystery, but hey - Wolfram was jealous of Bandou-kun, so his jealousy isn’t exactly discriminate. >.>

I think I missed a lot of Hube and Nicola’s story the first time around maybe because I watched the first 30 episodes in like two days but it’s a really interesting story! Hube seems to have learned from his mistakes, as he says to Nicola, because he gave Jilta a home and even fell in love with Nicola, a human woman, when before it was his bias against humans that cause big problems. (spoilers) and when you see Conrart’s face upon hearing of Hube, you just know it’s ON, baby! Vengeful!Conrad is made of win!

This episode is kind of the middle of the arc, so I’ll wait to say more until after we’ve finished with the Demon Flute. Fear Yuuri’s musical prowess? >.>
