Ah, The Glamorous Life of a Writer

I just sent off the revisions on my new novel, White Sands, Red Menace , the sequel to The Green Glass Sea. (Hi, Sharyn.)

This room was once my guest room, and will be again someday, but for the last month, it's where I've been holed up, scribbling notes, cutting and pasting, looking up synonyms, backing up files every 11.6 minutes, writing, ( Read more... )

Yay for finishing! But, unh, a cat-free zone? How...?

(It's okay, the question is rhetorical. I do understand that some people have doors that they can actually close, by will-power and mechanics. Me, if I had the will-power, I have cats who can overcome the mechanics; but as I lack the will-power anyway, this really doesn't apply...)

The top floor and bottom floor of my house are connected only by an outside staircase, which goes from the (external) sliding-glass kitchen door to the (external) solid-wood guest room door. The cats can go outside through their cat door in the kitchen, and can go down the stairs, and look in the *window* of the guest room, but have no access to the lower level.

(Which allows me to invite guests who need to sleep in a cat dander - free space.)

Ooops -- Silly LJ. It logged me out when I wasn't looking and made Anonymous the poster of that message and, de facto, the owner of my home and cats.

You know, when I see those pictures of shiny brushed steel surfaces and arty brick that wasn't there originally and little quaint spiral staircases to the tune of a mil or so for "live/work space" I think "that's not live/work space!"

THAT, in the photo.

THAT's live/work space.

I'm always relieved when I see raised work surfaces and floor work surfaces covered with paper. And when I do I have this urge to call Bob in to see and say, "See. It really is impossible to write without THAT!"
