Those of us who signed up for LJs before mid-March of this year have the option of having a totally-free Basic account. Essentially, you get crap for features, but no ads.
Folks who signed up after mid-March of this year only get the Plus (still free, more features + ads) or Paid (even more features, zero ads, costs money)
I don't really care either about the pricing structure, but I think a lot of people are more protesting the SUP guy's response to their outrage, rather than protesting the actual change. In an interview, he called them all a bunch of names, and basically said "you're stupid, what company listens to it's customers? We're in this to make money. We'll do what we want.. blah blah blah.") I'd look it up but I'm too lazy. I'm sure you can find it a million places. He was really a bit of jerk in the interview, I can totally agree with people's anger over that. Looking back on the internet archive at old El Jay pages, I did get rather nostalgic for the days of invite codes and free blogging love. But, if I had to chose between no El-Jay at all, and sucky corporate El-Jay.. I'd have to pick sucky corporate El Jay.
when I was in high school one of my classmates redid the opening to a tale of two cities to be a tale of two titties. It was pretty epic and the most effort he put into anything in class all year.
