So. Tokyopop released a new version of their site with social networking capabilities (blog, photos, etc). Disapproval of this is loud and echoed nearly verbatim by everyone who does disapprove of it ( Read more... )

Increased sales are great -- but what you say does not make sense. Many of the people who visit the Tokyopop site are there because they're looking into series that they might purchase, or already have. They're not attracting any NEW people, because the only real way to attract people to your product is if they buy it and like it. You don't continue to buy Colgate toothpaste even though you hate how it tastes just because they continue to advertise on TV.

I'm thinking the new website will just end up like Manga Online -- desolate and abandonned, until they have problems with copyrights. Then they'll start putting their thumb down and will hopefully go back to normal.

Oh - I hadn't really even looked into how easy it was to navigate for series information. I never relied on the TP site for that in the first place. I relied on word of mouth or Amazon for information. ;) (I should take my PRm hat off for that. *does so* Shame on me.)

I still think my theory is sound, though. ;D Maybe still very shaky (wouldn't want to imply otherwise), but fairly sound.

Looking at most of the Art uploads and many of the Blogs, they seem to be manga/anime related for the most part. Well, the blogs less so than the art. Most of the blogs are, "OMG wtf" and "First post." But a significant number of the other blogs seem to be reviews of some sort.

I admit fully, though, that I'm not really paying attention. (I'm procrastinating on some art work I'm supposed to be doing. Not artwork, but art of the work variety. So I feel too guilty to really do more than glance at things at the moment, but I couldn't resist writing something about it in LJ ( ... )

Lol... that's ... interesting. (I totally fail boardgames. I'm always the first to die in Monopoly)

I dunno... I think the website isn't professional. It says nothing about what they do as a company, and that's just ridiculous IMO. It's bad for their professional image -- especially to outside buyers and other japanese companies that may look into letting Tokyopop publish their works. I mean -- if I'm a buyer, and all I see is fanart and blogs on their main page, and nothing about their catalogue or what they do, I'm not going to be inclined to do business with them. I mean -- it sounds like a stretch, but it's totally logical thinking IMO.

But yeah -- I wont be going to the TP main site any more. I used to go there to look for release dates and shtuff... Not anymore :/

I don't disagree with your assessment of those things. :D (I wish I had enough sense to rub together at the moment to respond with more intelligence, but, alas, I do not. XD )

Lol. Well, you've obviously seen me on the site... it's... well, the art system isn't really that good. I figure that, if I can just get my friends to 'pop' my pieces, I could eventually take up the whole front page and no new art would be seen. That's a programming/HCI issue ( ... )

Oh, I don't know if it's the right way to go about it. I just wanted to lay down a possible logic pattern for it. XD

And how crazy is it that two of the most boring "blog" posts I've ever written are two of the three most popular blog entries on the TP site? (Or were last I checked.) That's insane. I'm not that interesting. And the posts were neither particularly witty or informative.

Crazy.

But I'm still amused. XD;;;; (Because I'm a terrible person, really. XD)
