+5 super insightful. Added levels to my enjoyment. Had to read several times. Particularly interested in the part about the two perspectives on power and authority, and their differing origins.
What about Batman/Joker slash? There was that scene in the interrogation room in #2 ("The Dark Knight") which was pretty revealing.
Part of me, btw, was annoyed that the 'happy' ending for Batman/Bruce Wayne was a conventional, presumably monogamous, probably even married, hetero relationship with a woman he had 'saved' (tamed?) from a life of crime (and relative poverty), hanging out in his sweater-and-khakis in high-class Florentine cafes. (and, of course, Selina's happy ending was hanging out with Bruce, in etc etc) I found it telling that, as Bruce was making eye contact with Alfred, presumably seeking approval from his surrogate father for fulfilling the latter's vicarious conservative tired-old-man dream, Selina was looking vaguely elsewhere.. perhaps already bored or neglected.
glad you liked it :D There's also the issue of what happens when authority withholds information for the sake of "pulling together" a group or society, but that's really more just another parallel than it is a theme in itself
