Let me tell you a story...

This past weekend was a pretty enjoyable one for thelemurgod and I (perhaps I shouldn’t put words in his mouth, but I think it’s a safe statement).

Saturday was a pretty standard “doing the laundry and completing other errands” kind of day. Once midnight hit, however, it was officially both Sunday and LG’s birthday so I gave him one of his presents instead of making him wait until later in the day. (Unfortunately, an item I’d bought off of eBay hadn’t yet arrived so there is still a whole “part two” to the birthday celebration which will have to wait until this coming weekend, as the item is part of a kind of installation piece that still needs installing, but I digress… and ramble….)

Later on Sunday morning, LG and I attended a service at The Salvation Army’s Portland Citadel Corps during which my brother-in-law Andy was being enrolled as a soldier/member (you can find information on what all this means by looking through the glossary of terms at the site for The Salvation Army’s International Headquarters). We then went out to eat (just LG and I), which we hadn’t had a chance to do for some time, after which we traveled up to LG’s mother’s home where his family gathered for a birthday cake in his honor. We were able to hang out for a few hours, which included being led by his three-year-old niece Hannah in a rousing and extended rendition of her future hit song, “It’s Dark, It’s Dark, Clap Your Hands!” It was pretty darned cute and I’ll be surprised if she isn’t a performer of some kind (or a teacher thereof) one day.

When we got home, we went to our respective rooms to work on various things until LG came up to my room shortly before midnight, knowing that I’d bought a little Valentine’s Day gift for him which I’d told him he could have at midnight. Correction: I told him he could have it after I saw the Disassemblance strip for Monday, as he’d previously told me that he’d created and uploaded a special Valentine’s Day comic in which he gave me a ‘shout out’ of some sort (made all the more mysterious to me as he’d not allowed me, his usual editor, to see the strip previous to uploading it). So, midnight arrives and I go to the Dis site and… nothing. The server is down. I try a couple of minutes later with the same results. LG decides to finish the burger he’d brought home from lunch and is sitting on my bed eating it when the server is finally operating again. I start reading the strip (see below) and he says, “I have something for you” and leaves the room, wiping burger from his mouth (of course, he thought the server would take longer to be accessible again - it was funny, I’m not explaining this well!).

So... I’m reading the above (which does indeed have a related strip from a couple years back which you can find in the archives) and LG re-appears, gets down on both knees (“because I’m not sure which is the proper one to do this,” he says) and produces a small, wooden, hexagonal box (which I recognize as a box I’d commented on recently at a craft store) which he’s painted black. Inside, on top of a piece of red cloth, is a ring made of wire with a blue/turquoise stone. He explains that he doesn’t expect me to wear it, that it’s more symbolic than anything, but that he’d wanted to find a stone that looked like my eyes (which are hazel/blue with goldish flecks … and though this stone doesn’t look exactly like them, it reminded him of them in some ways) and create this ring for me with his own hands. He says a bunch of good, sweet stuff and asks me to marry him. I love this man.

An enjoyable weekend, indeed. :-)

(…I said yes, of course…)

(…not that I think there was any doubt for those who know LG and I!)
