Your thoughts, if you please...

The following was prompted by a friend's recent query regarding whether anyone was still hanging around LJ or whether it had been abandoned entirely for Facebook and Twitter. I'm still here and, as I believe is true for many, am debating how best to utilize the various available journaling/blogging/social network options for my needs and desires. ( Read more... )

Thank you for the encouragement and feedback!

Just so you know, I've gone through probably three waves of "not writing or commenting but reading others' entries consistently" during the previous couple of years and have always enjoyed reading what you've shared (and look forward to more).

Your suggestions make a lot of sense to me, especially now that I've had a little time to experience pros/cons of Facebook firsthand. Related note: I had no idea that LJ had gotten (always was?!?) so "specifically customizable" re: privacy, etc. - pretty neat and I intend to utilize that knowledge.

Btw, the thought of just adding or deleting folks as I deem appropriate was a strangely 'big deal' for me - I'm sure I'll be writing about this in the next entry but thought I would mention that I feel a self-imposed hurdle has been jumped! :)

I did think for a time that I'd be deleting this journal (or just letting it remain dormant) but the more I contemplated distancing myself from it, the more I felt that - damnitall - a necessary part of my own process of continuing the forward momentum is figuring out how to reconcile the past (as represented by the previous entries here... and everything unspoken between and beyond the entries) with the now (and future). I respect that you chose to approach things differently and hope I don't come to regret my choice of approach ( ... )

I haven't anything long and clever to say like the other two commenters, but I'll say that I'm still reading and I'm still interested and care about you, your life and what you have to say. Also, it's easier to keep up with reading a Livejournal than a Wordpress blog. ;)

I am truly grateful for this (errr, the first sentence, that is)! Though I've been silent for the past month or so, please know it goes both ways and I look forward to hearing/reading more as you continue to kick ass (you do kick ass and encourage the rest of us to keep kicking, even when you're feeling kicked... you know this, right?!)!

lol I just came back. I'm wondering if more and more people will be turning away from facebook and rediscover some of these older sites.

That's cute you're still using your old DIS avatar. :D

Shit, hm, I don't know. You should definitely do whatever is comfortable to you. I think you're right... if you're looking for feedback, you're going to have a quicker response here where you already have friends. Anything you want to screen, well, LJ has well-known screening functions that I've found fairly user-friendly.

Of course if you want to discuss something and aren't comfortable with connecting it to your identity in the mind of anyone who knows you, then you have the blogger account, too. So that's good.

As for what is working for me? To be honest with you, man, nothing's working for me. That's kind of why I wandered back over here to LJ land. Maybe it was just another step backward, but I figured I would look around and see.

I need to put together some new avatars, though. lol.

Welcome back to you, too, then (lol)!

Yes, I made a conscious decision re: the Dis avatar (and I know LG's busy with other projects but I do wonder if it will return again... I know there'd been some issues with the new forum, etc., but I think the audience is still there, should it return).

Any new thoughts re: figuring out what works for you?
