3:10 To Yuma
Dark Man
Tales of Despeiro
Netflix is a cool resource for all those movies I missed out on, but jeez, the last few DVDs I've received in a row have all had WTF Endings.
This is not counting the WTF Ending for TRON: Legacy, which I saw in the theater.
3:10 to Yuma
starring Chritian Bale and Russell Crowe
Loved the whole damn movie (and I'm not much for Westerns, so that's saying something), but the ending was a huge fuckin' let-down. The Good Guy gets all the way to the end of his quest, and gets gunned down, only to have Russell Crowe's character gun down all the members of his own gang, then puts himself on the prison train. The train pulls away, and Crowe whistles for his horse, which races after the train.
WTF!? What was the point in that?
I do have to point out that the good guy getting gunned down at the end makes sense, and rang true to real-life. The bad guys don't always play nice, of course, but still I watch movies for the fantasy/escape, and having a "real-life" action happen kinda killed the magic for me.
NOTE: I haven't seen the original 3:10 to Yuma, so I don't know if the current remake took liberties with the ending.
Dark Man
Starring Liam Nieson (with cameo of Bruce Cambell at the end)
Older movie I stumbled on while looking for Bruce Willis movies.
Ironically, Bruce Willis had nothing to do with this movie.
...And I didn't really care for the movie as a whole.
Liam's character is a scientist working on making living-cell prosthetics. Just as he discovers that the cells are light-sensitive and can only survive for 90-minutes in direct sunlight, his lab is attacked my the mafia, and Liam ends up losing the ability to feel physical sensation as a result of being tortured and blown up. He survives the ordeal, but his emotions take over, and he can barely control himself. He goes and gets revenge on all those that had a hand in his current state, using his knowlege of temporary live-prosthesis, and pretty much kills them all.
And now for the WTF Ending:
Liam hooks back up with his girlfriend, but then leaves her, because he is no longer the man she knew and loved, and goes off to be the avenging anti-hero, Dark Man.
WTF!?
Tales of Despeiro
Starring the voice talents of Matthew Broderick and Sigourney Weaver (among others)
Loved the whole movie.
I even cried. Twice.
But then they threw in the WTF Ending:
Characters are all shown to be living happy after the events of the movie, then Sigourney Weaver reads a line "We'd like to say that 'they all lived happily ever after,' but where's the fun in that?"
WTF!?
TRON: Legacy
Starring Jeff Bridges, Bruce Boxleitner, and Daft Punk (among others)
I was really looking forward to this movie, being a pretty big fan of the original TRON movie.
I keep getting told it must be a "guy-thing."
The biblical undertones of the movie didn't sit very well with me, with the "Flynn is God" ending.
What was the point of all the events the characters had to struggle through, only to fail at their original objective, which was to escape WITH FLYNN from the "Grid"
On the plus side, I LOVED the music in the soundtrack, and immediately went and bought the digital soundtrack off of Amazon after getting home from the movie.
The visuals were stunning, and the action sequences were pretty nice, but that's pretty much all the movie had going for it. The story was thin, and then kinda collapsed on itself somewhere in the middle, and lost direction. "What were we doing again? Save Dad? No, we were shooting/racing/flying/escaping/disc-battling! Yeah, that's right!" XP
I've got Punisher: War Zone scheduled for arrival tomorrow
Work the last couple days has been going pretty good, which has been a bit of a surprise.
Usual frustrations, of course, but nothing that has stood out.
I attribute the lack of chronic and recurring stresses due to the absence of Brazilla. XD Not having her talk at the lot of us for the last 3 business days has been incredibly pleasant. Amazing how good it feels to remove a thorn in one's side, even if its only temporary.
Still looking for alternate employment, but haven't gotten any calls back. Still hopeful, though.
Mood: Okay
Music: Pogo - Gardyn
