getting better

It really is--getting better that is, at work...the construction crew yesterday evening tore down the old ragged cheap plastic sheeting which was about as thick as a sandwich bag, and this morning when I arrived at the library they were putting the finishing touches on a proper professional job of masking their work area from ours...the plastic is ( Read more... )

Ah yes, hello! Just had a read through your entries & you seem like a pretty interesting guy, so I've added you back! Just out of interest, how did you stumble upon my journal?

Hello--thanks for the add :) Thanks btw for giving me a shot--I can imagine it's a little strange to get a message out of the vortex like that--I felt a bit strange doing it but you sound very interesting too!

I found you by searching on "elastica" which for unknown reasons (but do you need any, lol) is a current obsession--I even like The Menace, and that's got to put me in a minority for Elastica fans :D Looking at your interests I see a few other things we list in common, Orwell's 1984, Britpop...what did you think of Oryx and Crake? Haven't read that yet--is it futuristic? Have you read Children of Men by chance?

I'm also intrigued that you do a radio show--this medium and how it contributes to the spread of indie has long interested me...how did you get started with that?

Sorry--as you can see I talk a lot--and I comment a lot too, I'm afraid!

klyte (but call me Chris if you like!)

Oryx and Crake is absolutely brill & one of my favourite books. It's a little bit sci-fi (futuristic, yes), a little bit dystopian, and just all round fab. I haven't read it for a while so I can't describe to you in great detail what it's about, but it's brilliantly written & the storyline is awesome, I would definitely recommend it!

I haven't read Children of Men, but it's definitely on my to-read list!

As to how I got into radio - I did a degree in journalism & sort of accidentally fell into the radio side of things (so glad I did - I intended to do the writing side of things!) Then when I finished uni, I returned to my home town & asked my local hospital's radio station if they needed any help! And they did! So there you go.

It's odd about Oryx and Crake--I have a pile of Atwood books here (all Canadian editions, souvenirs from a friend just back from the Great White North) and that one's on top! I've been glancing at it a lot, so I think I'll read that next...right now I'm finishing a novel by a guy named Charles Williams called Descent Into Hell--hard to describe, might call it a "spiritual thriller"? A little overwritten but the story is pretty compelling...yeah, I quite liked Children of Men, 'twas better than the movie I think (not that the film wasn't good, I just usually prefer the book)...I have a whole LIST of dystopic fiction if you'd like some more titles--one of my favorite genres!

So with your deejay job--it's based in the hospital? Interesting...do you have to do news and talk stuff/interviews in addition to music?

He is quite obsessed with Lego, and he's a genius when it comes to building stuff out of odd pieces--some imagination he has (I don't know where he gets that, lol--the two of us are very pragmatic for the most part!)
