I proved it, it just was based on several potentially false assumptions.

Not all proofs are accurate:

Let x=1
x^2-1 = X-1
(x+1)(x-1) = (x-1)
x+1 = 1

2=1!! Quad Ectum Dictum!

It's not a proof if it's based on false assumptions. And it's not a proof if you violate mathematical principles in it. As shown in the 2=1 example.
