Thoughts on some movies I've watched lately. These are by no means real reviews. Just some ramblings.
WARNING: Reading more could very well ruin the plot of the movie for you. Proceed with caution.
Diarios de motocicleta
Loved this movie. Every time I watch a movie in Spanish I'm reminded how much I love the language. I wish I could speak it better. I'm sort of inspired now to actually go read the journals of Che Guevara. As soon as I finish the other books I'm currently reading. Revolutions inspire & intrigue me. I like how in the movie you can see the change in Che...of course knowing a bit about his future helps as well. Bottom line - see this movie if you haven't. I can't believe it took me so long!
Pirates
First of all, I need to go back and watch the original - there are definitely some things I don't remember. That aside, I enjoyed this movie a lot. I thought it was funnier than the first one (loved the scene with the water-wheel). I was happy the Commodore made a return. Orlando was definitely hotter than the first time. The scenes with the big Kragen thing were overdone. Did NOT like that part. And bravo to the ending. Didn't expect to see Geoffrey Rush again. I read a review that called it "The Empire Strikes Back of the Pirates Trilogy" - hmm...sort of (though really nothing should every be compared to Star Wars). I'm looking forward to the third one next summer.
Shopgirl
Thirty minutes into the movies I wasn't so sure. Claire Danes was looking a little ho-ish (or maybe in the real world people do have sex on first dates, I dunno). The dates, both with Jason Schwartzman & Steve Martin were awkward and uncomfortable. Ugh, that makes me never want to date again I thought in my head. But I enjoyed the love story that unfolded and Claire Danes attempt to find a man to love, who loves her in return. And to find herself in the process. Martin's character personifies everything that drives me mad about dating, relationships, and life. And Schwartzman...well, his character almost inspires. He makes himself a better man. He realizes what women want, how they deserve to be treated, and in the end it serves him well. Good movie. After I finish the journals of Che maybe I'll read Steve Martin's novella.
You, Me, and Dupree
This movie was definitely not worth my theater time. Not that funny. A little too predictable. Owen Wilson - more annoying-funny than actual funny. Matt Dillon - I can never decide. Cute, not cute? Good actor, mediocre movies? My ballot is still out on him.
Redeeming qualities: Kate Hudson is hot. Michael Douglas is cool.
Coming soon: The Red Violin
