24 hour news and Interneting...

Generally, I think the 24 hours news cycle, at least of the commercial variety, is a bad thing. It makes it way too easy for stories to be given more play and significance than they deserve in a desperate desire to fill air time and keep viewers watching ( Read more... )

I agree, Kev! I think the internet is making a huge difference to those who are fighting against oppressive governments, since they can warn each other of movements by others and alert comrades to places to meet--like Freedom Square in Cairo.
Naturally, it's good for us who are just bystanders as well. May I suggest:

I think you're on to something. The very freedom to be trivial and out there and saying what you feel gives rise and credence to the notion that people ought to be able to be out there and saying what you feel. The internet has been a profound grassroots revolution unlike any seen before in history, I think. The genie is definitely out of the bottle!
