My only comment is changing positions will only make either of our lives more difficult until every song is so well ingrained that we needn't worry about tempo changes or anything of the sort. Besides there's nothing wrong with visual cues! As for lighting and darkness on stage, not much we can do unless we tighten up the space between the 3 of us.

Yea it's prolly just more of a practice issue. That's why I said preferably.
