Not many, but a few of the more independent-minded kids choose to stand silently. In the past five years here I've seen some opt out and months later choose to say the Pledge, omitting "under God" or otherwise changing the emphasis to fit their developing sense of ethics. That progression is one of the very cool things my job lets me see.
