So hey, what's up?
I've been "busy" lately playing a lot of Freelancer. I played through the story once more and then started looking into mods that remove the story and make it a real, giant sandbox game. I found one called "Discovery", but then I had the joy of Making Things Work On A Windows Computer. I had to uninstall everything about Freelancer, delete any leftover files, install the game, install the mod manager, run the mod manager in admin mode (freakin' Windows Vista), and then I could play the game without it fucking up.
But I'll be honest: it's worth it. Freelancer is a great pseudo-sandbox space sim, but it's sooooooooo much better when you don't have their bullshit story missions getting in the way of your exploring and doing whatever else you want. The game I've got now is pretty lawful, but when I get tired of it, I'll probably start a new game and side with the outlaws.
And I chose Discovery because it's a mod that's still being supported by a strong community who've basically turned Freelancer into a free MMO. All the other mods are pretty old and done with, and who knows if you can even get them to work with current OS? Also, if I ever want to play online, that's an option. I've already contacted
ch00k about this.
In other news, I've been feeling a lot better than when I posted
this. Maybe it's the therapy. Maybe it's the medication. Maybe it's the social contact I've been getting. Maybe it's just that I haven't had another depressive episode. Maybe it's a combination of all those things. But I've been doing really well.
I have a follow-up appointment on the 22nd of this month, and my doctor called in a refill of my meds, so I'm all taken care of there. Kaiser's "system" is still a bit of a pain, but I can work around that.
Oh, some of the bigwigs from one of our vendors are in town this week, and I've been invited to a dinner this evening at
McCormick and Schmick's, which is nice, except I don't like seafood (and yes, I've tried quite a bit of it). Oh well, maybe I'll be adventurous, or maybe I'll just get a cheeseburger. Honestly, I'd rather just come home right after work and play Freelancer, though. : P
One more thing, it's as cold as a well-digger's asshole right about now. 19F with a high of 31F. And yeah, I'm still walking 20 minutes or so from the MAX station to work. So glad I've got a good coat and awesome gloves. So glad it's not snowing.
My basement apartment is having similar problems to last year, but not as bad. The people upstairs aren't turning the heat off, it's just having problems keeping up. But I've got my space heater as well as my radiator, and things are ok.
