Third Ring | Action
He couldn't breathe. No matter how high he jumped or climbed, he could never reach the surface. He was down too deep. There weren't any air bubbles to stop the pair of clocks that were his lungs - and the annoying music that he'd finally started getting used to had changed to a familiar tune, one that filled him with even more panic than he was experiencing already.
How had all of this even happened? One minute he'd seen Eggman, with all of the Chaos Emeralds, and here he'd been, stuck in this stupid, slowpoke body, and now, a minute later--
He was going to drown.
Why couldn't he swim, even now!? He was more of a rock than the Geodude he'd caught in that stupid cave!
He hated this! No amount of running on the bottom of the lake or pond or whatever the heck it was was going to get him out. Tails wasn't here to come swim him out, and there weren't any ledges for him to jump on...

Was this it? Was this the end of his story? After everything he'd been through, after everything he still HAD to go through? Somewhere in the back of his mind, he remembered his words to Merlina, but... This was different! He still had a few more chapters left! His story-- It wasn't over!

With one last burst of strength, Sonic jumped. He kicked his legs and jumped and kicked and did everything he could...
... but he didn't get any closer to the surface.
