I used mine as a snowplow. And as an axe. And a pillow. {Said in a completely deadpan voice.}

Get it up to Level 15, and they learn tackle.

[He sighs and shakes his head.] I see. Thankfully I only have a little more to go then. Thank you--?

Ise Nanao, pleased to make your acquaintance.

It is tedious, raising Magikarp, but having a Gyarados definitely makes up for it.

The pleasure is all mine. I'm Sugata Shindou.

And I take it that's what this thing evolves into once it reaches a certain level?

'Constant patience' seems to be the general consensus.

[ every time he sees a Magikarp he just feels so much pity and secondhand embarrassment for it. :\.. ]

It appears to be, yes. Fortunately I don't have all that long to go until he learns something other than splash.

[sob, just give him a while-- he'll get better then right? like that saying other magikarps tell their frans. one day I will evolve and kill you all or something...]

[ he just... stares at the magikarp for a while, not sure what he's seeing, before finally speaking up. ]

What the hell is that thing?

[TAKUKARP FLAILS IN A VERY HAPPY MANNER.]

It's a Magikarp.

Uu-! Maria knows, Maria knows!

[ She grins brightly. ]

To train Magikarp you need to give them lots of love!

Lots of love? But isn't that normally what you'd do with any of your pokémon?

Of course! But with Magikarp you have to give them extra love, since they can't fight as well as other Pokémon can, uu-.

I trained mine normally and I encouraged her to fight with my other pokemons against the wild ones until she learned tackle! Then she fought a lot until she evolved!

I see. Thank you for the advice.

No problem! Remember to care for them, or they will get mad when they evolve.

I'd imagine. I've been warned not to anger it, and I wouldn't dream of angering it either. This is just one more hurdle to get over, but I'm sure I'll find a way to make it interesting.
