brain dumpy

The problem with my drinking is that there doesn't seem to be anything wrong. It's too easy. It doesn't negatively impact my work and rarely impacts my social life adversely. It's 2am and I feel vaguely functional. I have two gin & tonics and about 5 shots of rum in me (sipped, not shot), and I feel pretty okay. And I know that I'll get up ( Read more... )

As a fellow insomnia sufferer, may I suggest these alternatives to alcohol:

1. melatonin

2. meditation

3. exercising til you're too exhausted to do anything but sleep

4. lots of sex (can be a component of option 3)

Yes, drinking is easier, but it's also bad for you in consistent and substantial qualities. Let me tell you, codeine cough syrup is OTC here in New Zealand, and it always seems like a good idea at first....

much appreciated, but I know the causes for all this, and it's not medical. Things will get better. But not yet.

I'm having similar thought processes, as I've developed a daily drinking habit this summer (I blame most of it on spending roughly 20 hours each day with Kenneth, who is an unabashed alcoholic, and tends to start drinking around noon each day.)

I don't feel less functional, granted I still don't drink much quantity wise - a couple of beers worth a day, sometimes more, sometimes less. I've been trying to chose maybe 3 days a week to consciously *not* drink, to keep myself in check, maybe doing something like that would help you? Have a couple of "detox days" and see if you feel healthier in other regards during those time periods? My immune system is better than it's been in a few years, so I know what you mean by the whole "I don't think it's hurting me" bit, but it's probably more of a long term liver damage thing than something you can feel immediately.

I don't know.

I like drunk and sober Jesse, and I like a healthy happy Jesse. I totally respect you, for what it's worth, whatever you end up doing. My only real concern for you ( ... )
