I popped into work this evening to make sure that they could roll the system date into the new year on the new computer system. (They couldn't, I could). When I was heading home the main street in my neighborhood was closed near the intersection of the street I use to get to my house. There were ten or so police cars and at least one remote

Holy shit! At least it was domestic crime, I mean, it is horribly horrible, but it wasn't some crazed maniac shooting our neighbors for no reason. Damn, people just snap sometimes.

There had been a New Year's Eve party at the house earlier in the evening. After everyone had left the home owner armed his security system. An hour of so later one of his friends (who was too drunk to drive) staggered back to the house to spend the night (we guess). He set off the alarm. The home owner, who was also drunk, shot the "intruder" in the head through the side door to the house. His friend was killed instantly. The home owner has been charged with second degree manslaughter for negligent use of a firearm.
