[filtered from Kefka]

What can you tell me about Kefka?

((This is mostly aimed at the FFVI cast, but since Squall figures other people might be interested in the answers, he's filtered so that pretty much everyone can see it. And if someone not from the FFVI cast has anything to say they're more than welcome to speak up~.))

Are you more curious about what he can do, or what he has actually done? Or do you more want an idea of what he is like?

Whatever you're willing to tell me.

That is quite a bit actually. First of all, it is likely best to understand that he and I are the results of an experiment done by the Empire that raised us. I assure you, I'm nothing like him. Something happened that caused him to lose touch with reality and he is definitely far from sane.

He uses magic primarily. Unlike me, he has no preference for using a weapon. You'll find that physical attacks work very well on him. However, he tends to crack even further when you harm him, if you can harm him. I will admit, it isn't an easy thing.

I also can say, he has told me nothing but lies, even knowing that I would recognize them as lies. None of us know what time frame he is from, though we all suspect it is from after all of us, which means he has absorbed the power of our three goddesses of magic too.

Put simply, he's very dangerous. The fact that people here cannot truly die will just amuse him even more.

He said he was the one of the ones that didn't go mad. I'm guessing that was a lie?

Kefka was the Court Mage of the Gestahlian Empire. He underwent a magic infusion, but it eventually drove him mad. He did many underhanded deeds in name of the Empire, though is greed for power eventually exceeded that. Of his deeds before then; poisoning a kingdom's water supply, luring Espers into the open only to slaughter them and drain them of their power, inventing and perfecting a device called the Slave Crown...which is exactly what it sounds like.

Kefka eventually turned against even the Emperor and killed him, and in that time also moved statues out of alignment that preserved the balance in our world. He drained them of their power and shattered my world with it. I don't know much about after that point, because I'm from a point in time when that just happened.

He's not someone that can be trusted, ever. He's far too insane, and hates everyone and everything. All people are just tools, to him.

My friends can tell you more, but that is what stands out most for me.

...Espers?

They are beings of magic, that can be summoned and used to teach magic to humans. Kefka abused many of them for his own ends.

Sort of like our GFs, then.

I fear, Sir Squall, that a future version of this Kefka has wronged a vocal number of the residents here. Yet Kefka himself seems perplexed by the animosity. I believe the man has been brought here from a time before his heart is seduced by evil, and moreover that there is a chance to rehabilitate him and possibly prevent him from causing suffering on his own world upon his return.

That might only be what he says. I'm not so sure he's telling the truth.

He has shown no hint of being the person others claim he is. As such, there is no reason to disbelieve him.

Everyone deserves a second chance.

But there's no reason to believe him either. They can't both be telling the truth.

And... I know someone who doesn't deserve another chance.

It's like the others said. Don't let your guard down around him... he's insane and can't be trusted.

Is it possible he could be from a point before he went insane?

Possible... but not likely. He's apparently too strong to be from before that.

'Apparently'. You don't know for sure?

Kefka was the best magic user in our world. Magic left us a thousand years ago, but the Empire managed to get their hands on some Espers and basically tortured and killed them for their life force. They practiced a few experiments on living people to try and give them "natural" powers at magic, and it worked a few times. Kefka was the first - Celes was the last, and when it came time for her, they'd made the procedure actually work correctly. But something about it was botched with Kefka, and we don't call him "psychotic clown" for nothing. The worst part is, even after he was proven sadistic and insane, he was given military command over part of the army and was chosen to act as a "diplomat" - which was basically the same as showing up and demanding surrender.

He built a device that held Terra in mind-control with no memories for years. He was one of the ones that condemned Celes to death for treason when she refused to follow a cruel order that would mean the deaths of many noncombatants. He literally made people lick his boots. ( ... )

Why would anyone give that sort of position to a madman?

Power, pure and simple. He thought he could control Kefka, and for awhile he did. And Kefka made the best tool for frightening others onto his side.
