I feel like such a bad cat mommy.

The poor baby was cowering in her litter box, hiding from me last night.

All I have to do is pick up her pain medication now, and she flees in terror. Damn you, cystitis! *pets poor, abused baby*

Oh, I feel your pain. We had a diabetic cat, and honestly, she was so miserable because I had to give her a shot every day I sometimes wondered if it was worth it.

Cystitis, though--that's temporary, right? You're being a good cat mommy if you're doing something that will make her better. She'll forgive you once she feels better.

ok... this is gonna sound a bit silly... but, i've been watching a lot of the dog whisperer of late. now i know the technique is mainly for dogs but i can't see why it wouldn't work for other animals.

he says that it's important to not feel 'sorry' or guilty that you're doing it, be calm and in control then make the experience be associated with something nice. so start with holding her and giver her some nice pettings and massaging so she's nice and relaxed. then administer the meds and continue the massaging. then she'll start to associate the meds with a nice massage.

don't know for sure if it will work but there's absolutely no harm in trying it. make sure she's calm first and it will go smoother. the more freaked out she is to start with then the less likely it is to woek. so have the meds in your pocket or something. he also recommends not talking to them... just doing it.

hope it helps some.

nate.
