[SCENE] Klavier and Edgeworth in: From One Prosecutor to Another

Apr 29, 2010 20:58

((Takes place earlier in the week.))

Klavier: *Monday has arrived, the day Prosecutor Gavin gets to choose his debut case. He has insisted on starting off with a bang, claiming the high-profile defendant Zak Gramarye, a.k.a. Shadi Enigmar. It's more than the publicity; he has heard that his brother will be representing the defendant. All in all, it's a very cool way to begin his career. He leaves Prosecutor Shore to his game, and returns to his own office after lunch, his own case files in hand. He puts on The Rifles' Great Escape album, and cranks up the volume on his speakers. There's nothing like a strong bass line to aid one's concentration*

Edgeworth: *at his desk in the office next door, Miles Edgeworth is glancing through his list of trials for the week as well. One particularly complex case, a double homicide with a rather questionable motive and a missing murder weapon, gives him pause--and for the next few minutes he's utterly in focus, poring over the pages.... until he notices the quill on his desk start to tremble*

Edgeworth: ................................

Klavier: *As he pores over the evidence-- the photographs, the blackmail notes, the statement taken from the other protegee-- Klavier grows antsy, and turns the volume up even higher. The vibration of the bass and percussion are like a security blanket surrounding him, but something is still not right.* ...Achtung! *he says, not even able to hear himself over the stereo. That is it, the current track lacks in the mood of this case. He needs... something. He glances over his CD rack. Something more subtle than "Voodoo Child" or "I Love a Magician"...*

Klavier: *Something on this very album. He keys it up to track ten, and cranks the volume up another notch for "The General".* When he was younger he could rumble like a hurricane...

Edgeworth: *the trembling quill on his desk serves as a terrible, all-consuming distraction until the name plate on his desk starts to shake as well. When the other contents of his desk and indeed his whole bookshelf starts to tremble, he staggers quickly to his feet--but with the floor and seemingly the rest of the world shaking, Edgeworth manages all of one step before his legs give in on themselves and he half faints against his desk*

Edgeworth: *a full 4:36 seconds later--coincidentally when the track playing next door ends, a visibly shaken and very irritable Edgeworth runs a hand through his hair and marches into the hallway, knocking loudly at his neighbour's door. He doesn't wait for an answer before he storms in* Gavin!

Klavier: *The next track is a low-key acoustic number, and Klavier can almost hear the interloper in his office. More importantly, he can very definitely see him, and he stops the CD* Herr Edgeworth! Das tut mir Leid, I didn't hear you knock.

Edgeworth: I did. *and with arms crossed and scowl on his features as he marches over to the younger man, that's all he offers* Put down your papers.

Klavier: I'm sorry, it must have drowned in the bass. *he places the Magnifi letters back on the desk, and pulls a grin, but a fey one* Why so serious? Am I under arrest?

Edgeworth: *plainly, without a shred of humor in his tone* If you play anything--anything like that again, much less at that volume, I'm having your equipment confiscated and you thrown out of this building. Understand?

Klavier: *grimaces* Understood. Das tut mir Leid. *swivels in his chair to turn the volume back down to a reasonable level for old people* I've been meaning to soundproof the office, but I still owe Kristoph for the motorcycle. Das tut mir Leid. *finally schools his expression back into a smile* Perhaps when I get the bonus for convicting Gramarye's killer, ja?

Edgeworth: *jabs a finger in Klavier's general direction* Don't get ahead of yourself. Cases are rarely open and shut in this country, and this one is still your first. *re-crosses his arms* I haven't read the case myself, but seeing as you had "first dibs"... you took a large one, didn't you.

Klavier: *smiles easily now* Jawohl! I wanted a case that rocks, so I can rock the case. I do not do things by halves, ja? *he swivels to pick up the case file, having taken Edgeworth's "but" as an expression of interest* I do not think the defense will win this one. My case stands on several pillars, and even knocking down one will not break it.

Edgeworth: *shakes his head condescendingly* Overconfidence will get you nowhere. Expect more than one pillar to come crashing down in the process--and prepare for it. *studies the younger prosecutor carefully* However, in order to expose the truth you may have to wreak the destruction yourself. Do you understand?

Klavier: .......That. Is. Awesome. *claps his hands together, for a beat* Achtung, you have a gift with words, Herr Edgeworth. Rest assured, all I want is the truth, but I think the police have already found it for us. *kicks his spare chair* Perhaps you would like to review the case with me? Herr Shore told me he is raiding until four o'clock.

Edgeworth: *seemingly satisfied at Klavier's assurances, he makes as if to sit when Klavier kicks forward his spare chair... but at the latter half of the young prosecutor's words, he remains standing* Hn. Perhaps it would be more prudent of me to go speak to Mr. Shore. *an intense frown as he glances back towards the door* ... If you'll excuse me.

Klavier: Ahahaahaha. No, please, wait. You... don't want to disturb him when he's raiding. *he looks to his left briefly, apparently trying to hide the smirk that is still visible at the corner of his mouth* Not since some "noob" interrupted a raid by deleting a pair of bracers. *he turns back, and now his smile is open and genuine* Besides, you give better advice, ja?

Edgeworth: *glances from the door back to Klavier* ... Very well, though I don't have the time to review your case in its entirety. *places his hand on the back of the offered chair* Firstly--is there any detail in regards to the general procedure of the trial that you are unclear on?

Klavier: No, I think I'm prepared on that front. I have sat co-chair in ten trials, ja? *smirks* Though if you have seen Herr Shore prosecuting-- obviously I do not intend to call my witnesses "noobs."

Edgeworth: I have no intention on attending any of that man's trials. *tap, tap* Witnesses? Have you spoken to them?

Klavier: I had lunch with the detective. *his mouth twists* Actually, that was zehr strange. He acted like he had never had a cheeseburger. But-- anyway. He ran down the essentials of the crime scene evidence for me. I am meeting with the other disciple, who found the body when Enigmar was done, this evening.

Edgeworth: The Enigmar case? *considers* So there was no witness at the time of the murder. ...You've chosen quite an arduous first case, Gavin. *tap, tap* The detective--I take it you have Detective Gumshoe for the day? A blessing and a curse, if you ask me. You can trust in his intentions... but as to his delivery...

Klavier: Ja, ja. Detective Gumshoe. I do not believe he understood the significance of what he gave me, but at least he knew to preserve it nevertheless. The physical evidence is solid against Shadi Enigmar. As for witnesses-- well, sadly, it was arranged that there would be none. The old legend orchestrated his own demise, down to the tiniest detail.

Edgeworth: So it seems. *crosses his arms* Well, you appear to have a good handle on the case to start. Just be sure to think one step ahead of the witnesses, and two steps ahead of the defense. *a smile tugs at the corner of his lips*

Klavier: That is why I am meeting Herr... Valant tonight. *grimaces* If only he would state his real name for the court record. But. I want to be sure he is not pulling any rabbits out of his hat. His statement to the police was straightforward enough, and was corroborated by the physical evidence.

Edgeworth: Good. *glances to the door, then back to Klavier with a smirk* Well then-- shall I expect news of your results Friday morning?

Klavier: Look forward to it, Herr Edgeworth. *grins* 'Prosecutor Klavier Gavin, a seventeen year old prodigy from Germany, has successfully prosecuted a celebrity case of assisted suicide in his first stateside trial...'

Edgeworth: ...Indeed. *chuckles somewhat as he moves to the door, stopping only when he gets to it* Ah--yes. Keep in mind: the defense attorney. While he is your opposition, he can also be your greatest ally. If he is someone you can trust, then all the better. *nods his head in a curt gesture* I'll speak to you later, Gavin.

Klavier: *flips a gesture that is somewhere between a salute and a court-worthy pointing of his finger* Thank you for that, Herr Edgeworth. I will keep it in mind. *the conversation would appear to be over, but when Edgeworth turns to go, Klavier calls after him* And remember: my conviction bonus will buy soundproofing. Promise!

Edgeworth: *smirks* I'll hold you to that, you know. *and with that, he departs*
