No-grocery week!

Feb 24, 2009 10:55

Hey, remember when I didn't buy groceries?

Here's coverage of a movement for people to not shop for a week. Amateurs...

baking, greed, cooking, wegmans, shopping, money, food, groceries, economics

I was telling someone about that, when were talking about being thrifty. What was some the weird stuff you ended up eating? I don't remember what was good and what was bad.

You're probably thinking of the egg salad incident. I didn't really write much more about what I made. Nothing too exciting. I think I played a bit with polenta.

Lol, I love how the egg salad incident links to yet another incident... :)

No, I think the idea of this egullet/NYT thing is, if you shop once a week: don't shop one week. You go two weeks between trips.

"People are encouraged to eat only what’s already in the house, posting their progress, of course." Uh, I do this once a month at least. It's called, being a grad student, reaching the last week of the month, and realizing that you have $10 left in your bank account. As a matter of fact, I'm doing it this week - 6 more days til my stipend check is deposited. Last night for dinner, I had pinto beans in spaghetti sauce. Classy. But seriously, this comes off as totally bourgeoise-asshole on the part of the NYT - people on low incomes have to do this ALL THE TIME. It's called living paycheck to paycheck. And now it's some novel thing to like, blog about? Thanks for posting this. Grah.
