Annual travel/year summary

Jan 09, 2011 17:53

I don't know if I could compile well my list of destinations and concerts this past year. Maybe I'll try in a few weeks (hah). But here's my annualish list of airports and public transportation systems:

Airports:
BWI
ROC
DTW
AMS
IAD
ORD
PDX $
LGA *
JFK
FRA $
STL $
$ - new to me
* - new since I started keeping track of these things a few years ago

I gained Premier status on United Plus, which paid off on my trip home for Christmas: a bump up to business class despite a delay and Economy Plus (just extra legroom) on the flight back to AMS. I would've probably gotten closer to Premier Exec if I'd gotten organized about my trip here in April better. Alas.

Public transportation systems I've used:
Maryland MTA
Washington Metro
Amtrak
NS (Dutch national railway)
PDX Trimet
GVB, Amsterdam metro
Novio/Breng
Connexxion
Metro St Louis
Deutsche Bahn

I was with gnothi_se_auton and part of her family for New Year's, in Kassel, Germany. We discussed year-end things. My favorite new place I visited? I think it's Portland, Oregon. My favorite old place I visited? Rochester. My favorite album is actually a mix CD from Jamie, one of my neighbors in Rochester. Just a sweet CD that got me through my crazy week of defending my thesis. My favorite purchase has to be my apartment. 2011's shaping up nicely for purchases though: put a down payment on a netbook/laptop (Asus 1215N) yesterday and also bought a bedframe FINALLY from Ikea.

So, yes, in 2010, I:
-applied for postdoc positions
-visited The Netherlands for the first time
-was offered the position I ended up taking
-wrote my dissertation from scratch
-successfully defended my dissertation, thus making me Knile, PhD
-gave my first conference talk
-somehow packed up/sold an apartment worth of detritus
-moved to The Netherlands, my first time living outside of the Eastern Time Zone or the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic
-updated this site a grand total of four times
-took over 850 photos
