knitted bathtub toy bag?

May 15, 2007 07:05

I need something to keep my kid's ever growing collection of bathtub toys under control.  I was thinking about maybe trying to knit up a mesh bag to hang over the shower head.  maybe something like this http://www.flickr.com/photos/66711411@N00/24549186/

is this a bad idea?  what kind of yarn should i use?  cotton?  cotton blend?  any ideas at all?

seems like you should use something more synthetic, almost plastic, but I can't think of what would be out there. I've seen/heard of people knitting with wire, which wouldn't be appropriate for bathtub stuff, but it seems like you could find something at Michael's or some other crafty place that would work. sounds fun, I love knitting with "alternative" materials.

there are patterns knit w/ recycled shopping bags...and the french market bag style might work rather well for you, you would want something loose because then it will dry between showers...there is also a pattern on knitty for a bath loofa type thing, maybe check out what its made of obviously it does well in water..

And say that I've seen several different patterns like this over the years :-)

How about strips of nylon net? I have some crocheted scrubbers for the sink that look like they were made from nylon net. (Unfortunately, I don't know how they were made--I received them as gifts.)

I definitely would not recommend cotton unless your bathroom is very well ventilated and things dry quickly there --if cotton doesn't dry out properly, it gets stinky. (I have a couple of cotton sweaters to prove this point.)
