I feel very sad.

Melancholy, almost.

No, melancholy is I think a  good word.  From the Merrium-Webster Online dictionary:

Main Entry: 2melancholyFunction: adjectiveDate: 14th century

It's funny, how that sort of melancholy happens throughout life, whether or not you're prepared for it. Because no matter what you're doing, there's always someone doing something else. I didn't have many friends who didn't go to college, so I didn't have it at that time, but I know that when I got married (I was the first of my same-aged friends to do so) it was definitely there. Where I've felt it the most strongly is when friends announce that they're pregnant -- the first few times someone announced to me, it literally made me weepy. Now I'm used to it, so I'm okay with it. My mom reports that when the first few of her friends became grandparents, she felt that way too.

I'm rambling, but what I'm trying to say is that I understand completely how you're feeling. And I'm glad you worked at the yarn store so we got to meet. :-)
