Matt followed the faint sounds which might be Connor's escaped pets, if not, they were probably rats. His torch beam lit his way as he wondered, not for the first time, how Connor would have survived in the future, his mind always on something other than the present.
His feet stopped as the beam shone on a section of wall, the words stark and clear. He swallowed as he remembered: wandering the tunnels of home as a young boy, dared to go deeper by friends. Of finding these same words, half erased by time.
The ARC had been his home.
