My marriage had ended due to lies.
Not the secret I wouldn’t, couldn’t tell my family, my wife had understood the Official Secrets Act. And I saw no reason to scare them, to tell them that the monster under the bed might really be there.
No, it had been the little things, the white lies I’d told to keep the peace, to avoid the fights I had no wish for my children to witness. My wife thought I didn’t care, but it was to spare my children, all of us from the pointless pain as our marriage headed towards extinction.
